Usually a video game based on a TV show or movie does a horrendous job being a decent game, but this game is tolerable.

User Rating: 7.5 | Spider-Man: The Movie PS2
For those who were excited upon the live action film of "Spider-Man", then many were probably not disappointed. For the release of the video game, there can definitely be some mixed reactions...

Story: 8 (The story is based on the film, with several other elements added from the comic books)
Graphics: 7.5 (The graphics did their part at the time of their release; the backgrounds looked good while some facial animation looked terrible)
Music: 8 (Something you'd expect from the idea of the "Web Slinger", and some music from the film as well)
Controls: 5 (The camera can be both good and bad at certain moments, while the combat can be both repetitive and dull, including the awkward movements in mid-air can cause an early "fall" for the player)
Sound: 7.5 (Tobey Magiure [Spider-Man] and Willem Dafoe [Green Goblin] do their respective voices well, while every other voice can be annoying to hear and or weak, as if the audio used was not working, while the combat sounds unnatural, everything else is fine)

The story starts out (I think whoever is reading most likely knows the story, but for those who don't...) with "Peter Parker", an intelligent student in high school, yet "marked" as a nerd by most students in his school, crushing on a girl and then he is bitten by a radioactive spider (although that term is edited in the film). Then he quickly discovers that the bite has given him special abilities, such as enhanced strength, the ability to "crawl on walls", "spider sense", and in the film/video game anyway, webbing can be released from his wrists. He then decides to put his power into use in order to earn money for his aunt and uncle eventually is subsided in his uncle's death. The story of the "hero" starts from that. The good thing is that the makers kept the original story how it is and expanded it into something more, which isn't bad at all really.

The game-play has it's pros and cons. feeling of becoming Spider-Man is both attempted and limited, due to the webbing being shot from the sky, enabling him to move in the air for a seemingly limitless amount of time, while crawling can be fun, minus the irritating camera getting in the way, while the combat gets very repetitive throughout the game, as combat seems to be the only point in this game (minus very minor puzzles in order to get into other areas, or other things that aren't very gripping at all, except doing things you'd expect Spider-Man to be doing. The other things minus the story mode are the extra modes (usually from humor, like practice/training rooms, fighting rooms to gain a large score, or unlocking alternate costumes and or perceptions within the story mode, not to mention the "pinhead bowling" seems to be fun for a time), which does offer quite a bit of replay value, but only for those willing to even play the game.

This is a good game for those who are fans of the "Web Slinger", or those who enjoyed the movie. But otherwise there really isn't much point in getting it other than the branding of Marvel's mascot. But it is indeed worth renting or borrowing.
