The gameplay and 3-D platformer elements make this the best non-nintendo game for the system.

Nintendo creates systems that seem to only work for their games. The non-nintendo games typicially make their games rely too much on button mashing, especially when spidey comes into play. However, ironicially, a movie tie-in gives Spidey his best handheld adaption for the system, even better than a game created exclusively for handheld systems.
The games plot follows Peter/Spidey, and closely parallels the movie's plot, although adding in gangs and bombers to keep up the game time. Unfortunately, this still doesn't make the game run very long, and the collectibles are really easy to find, making the games best retail value in it's time trials. However, you're sure to want to replay the game anyways, just for the fun of it.
Unlike most Spidey games, the gameplay is the star of the show here. The game seems to operate slightly more like metroid prime than a handheld beat-em-up, as now you use the touch-screen for combat, and the D-Pad for movement. Although the touch screen may not get you the move you want, It'll work well enough for your needs. Unlike the console versions, there is a definitive difference between the black suit and the red suit. The black suit manages to attack quicker, harder, and more accurately than the red suit, and the meter keeping up works properly.
The graphics are also great, although this is one thing Spider-Man's games usually get right. All in all, the game takes a well worn formula, and simply adds new controls to it, and the improvements are tremendous. I don't usually like movie games, but this is one to own.
