One of the best action racing games I've ever played. A totally original experience that is rare to come by.

I'd have say, I had very low expectations for this racer, having of read a review in the Official Sega Dreamcast Magazine when the game was released back in 1999 which gave the game a 6 out of 10. I thought I'd try the game anyways though, since I could snag a brand new copy for like $10 anyways. When I finally got around to picking up the game, I was thoroughly amazed at what I saw; just raw, simply original, intense, challenging, action. I seriously have never seen a racing game that stays so fresh from track to track other than Seed Devils. There's just so many amazing moments, like tornado's that'll lift your car high into the air, a shark clamping onto the side of the harbor as you speed across it. All the tracks are superbly put together, with shortcuts, and thrills a plenty. Complimenting the superb layout of each track is the game play itself in Speed Devils. During races, there are certain points in which cops will read your car's speed with their radar, which gives you the chance to bust the radar by exceeding the speed that the radar can read (the more mph you break it by, the more money you get). There's plenty of little extras like that, like side bets that racers will take you up on with each race, or staying in the lead for more cash, and having the highest speed for a race will also get you cash. Which all cash ultimately lets you buy better cars (with the pain job of your choice), or to sup up the cars you already have with better NOS, tires, or engines. Speed Devils not only stamps down a pretty enthralling experience with its game play and extras, but also its presentation in general. Though some of the cars can seem a little rough on the edges at times, their overall quite nice too look at, and all have their own original look to them. All the levels are so different, that's why it's extremely amazing that they found the time to put all the details into every track, making it feel that much more immersive as you're flying by it at ridiculously fast speeds most of the time. The sound department is just as cooperative as the graphics in Speed Devils, with plenty of metal twisting crunches and NOS igniting mayhem the sound fallows along with deep rich content that doesn't get stale. The only bad part about the sound would be when the radar gun comes up, but that's not too big of deal considering how solid the rest of the package is. If you're tired of all the same old, same old, then I can't stress enough that you must get this title. Speed Devils is a classic that will never leave my mind, I just love the over the top racing games that just break the mold with original game play elements like this one.
