As action movies are to the film industry, action games tend to be the blockbusters of the video game industry. Games in this catchall category typically combine elements from other game genres in an attempt to appeal to a broad audience. As a result, this remains one of the most crowded and heavily contested genres year after year. This year fans of action adventure games once again had a number of impressive games to choose from, including our five finalists for the 2006 Best Action Adventure Game award.
