Expansion packs are an excellent way for developers and publishers to support their fans by providing new content and features for them to enjoy. However, the best expansion packs don't just add new content; they also enhance the original games. And all the expansion packs nominated here do an outstanding job of taking their original games and making them even better:
This expansion adds a ton of new content, including two new playable races, a big new single-player campaign, and plenty of multiplayer options. Dark Crusade offers plenty of value and is a great reason to get hooked on Dawn of War all over again.

Warlords adds plenty of good stuff to an already great game. Yes, it adds six new civilizations, but the real stars of the show are the expansion's new scenarios, which let you turn Civ on its head by playing as...the barbarians?
The Forces of Corruption expansion pack not only adds an interesting new playable faction to Petroglyph's fast-paced Star Wars-themed strategy game, but also makes several enhancements to the already-great original game.

Defeating the forces of Armacham was only the beginning. The F.E.A.R. - Extraction Point Expansion Pack takes you to the next chapter - now Alma is looking for retribution. The game kicks off where the original game ended – with a bang. The First Encounter Assault Recon Team (F.E.A.R.) returns to battle the now free Alma and her paranormal minions across a destroyed city. New locations, weaponry and enemies combine to take the F.E.A.R. franchise to new levels of action and suspense.

The best expansion packs add lots of great new content and help reinvigorate, even reinvent, their original games. Dark Crusade does exactly this--the expansion adds two new playable factions, the Necron and the Tau, to the five other factions introduced in the previous games. It also offers a good-sized single-player campaign. Though it only lets you play as the new Necron and Tau factions in multiplayer, the expansion does let you test-drive any of the seven factions in single-player skirmishes. Dark Crusade's massive offering of content makes it this year's best expansion pack by far. This is how expansion packs should be made.
