The Wii U's controller is the definition of a "kitchen sink." It has got so many different kinds of control schemes inside of it. You could even say that all the roads of Nintendo's past have led the company to the new controller. Looking at the company's historical product lineup, you can see possible influences from more than 20 years back.

looks bulky and heavy. i'll just wait for the revision of this. the lighter and slimmer version of Wii U just like the DS series. that will probably happen after 3-4 yrs from the release date.

@Oozyrat I'm kinda hoping it is too, but if the "film" on top was thinner, it might work better with your fingers.

@mario-nin-freak - I'm guessing like the DS's because a stylus won't work on an iPod. I like both for different reasons because the DS's can take more of a beating and is more accurate, however the iPod's touchscreen has always read my finger better. It's probably going to be a slightly better version of a DS touchscreen

@fa11en1134 Nintendo didn't invented the joystick,i never said that brother, what i said is that they launch the concept of what is in use today which is the layout of buttons; select/start-digital pad on crux-front buttons on crux-shoulder buttons etc.
All that was perfected later by the other companies,my point is,they got vision and experience and we as players must keep a open mind for what they are doing now,i'm not a Wii player but i fell o lot of gratitude for their old tech.
One series in particular i recommend to you,its Metroid, this one is hardcore to the bone and 100% handmade by nintendo.cheers

First, you private message me to insult me. Then, as psycho75 said the same thing as me, you bow to him? And, psycho75 was the original person to post that Nintendo is responsible for the analog stick as well as the button layout as you all see on your PS3 and XBox controllers. He didn't mention a single thing about Nintendo being the first console to have a "joystick and buttons" as you so proclaimed. fa11en1134, maybe you should learn to read, before criticizing??

Nintendo knows how to make things fun. I can safely say this. Keep it up, Nintendo!

Don't let anyone bring you down.

@psycho75 yeah i know. i never said they were. i think you missed the point, which was, nintendo didnt invent the joystick or controller w/buttons like another poster was suggesting.

I do remember that they said the controller was surprisingly light. That's especially great because it has so many built in feautures. Gyroscope, Mic, Camera, Speaks, TOuch Screen, and a controller. I won't mind it's bulkiness or weight at all.

That's what makes nintendo great. Being simple, for casual gamers, yet complex and challenging for hard core gamers.

I love how people now believe, because the wii is not at the same power level as its competition, that Nintendo doesn't know how to make powerful hardware. The cube was weak was it? Tell that the Retro and Capcom who made the best looking games last gen on the cube. Sure one could argue that the DS was under powered, but if you look at the power of the hardware of the gen before it hit shelves it was a pretty big leap.
