Evil geniuses, vengeful dinosaurs, and sulking sorcerers--no matter the villain, it seems as though there's a defined way of engaging in nefarious matters in the world of video games. For every well-laid, sinister plan, there always seems to be one thing that makes it all go horribly wrong. But as any villain would tell you, there's (almost) always a next time, and with that in mind, we'd like to offer some tips to villains having trouble realizing their hopes for world domination.
We're just going to put this out there--if your lair isn't surrounded by some sort of fire, you're not much of a villain. Not only do flames add moody lighting and make you look more sinister than you really are (you know, like the flashlight under the face thing), but they also provide an uncomfortable level of heat that generally makes any heavily armored hero think twice before entering your sauna of doom. Another helpful tip: It helps if you have some kind of precarious path for a hero to cross, like a bridge or a series of platforms--one false step, and that hero is toast. Bonus points abound if you throw stuff (a fireball will work, but try to be creative) or send flying henchmen at the hero while they're venturing into your trap. Man, do heroes hate that!
