Part of 3D Dot Game Heroes' charm has to do with the fact that the loading screens are an homage to classic retro games. For the North American version of the game, developer From Software re-created box art in pixelated form, which we've all come to know and love. We decided to ask From Software reps what exactly they were thinking.

GameSpot: Why did you want to parody box art in the first place?

From Software: For quite some time, the project's director had been thinking about whether there was anything interesting he could do with the loading screens. Parodying popular box art was an idea that came up. At first, the director really wanted to try it out and see the results, but when we made our first such parody artwork on a trial run, it turned out so good that we decided to make a lot more.

On Lemmings: We think we were able to depict the sentimental aspects (what fans connect to and would have nostalgia from) of this cover art particular well.
