Gaming's Greatest Patriots

Mike Haggar (Final Fight)

To put it quite simply, Mike Haggar lived the American Dream. After a celebrated career in professional wrestling, Mike Haggar saw what was wrong with America and decided to make a difference in his own neck of the woods by becoming mayor of Metro City and shutting down the gang that made it a not-so-nice place to live. Then things got really dirty--Mad Gear kidnapped Haggar's daughter. But like any true patriot, instead of sitting back, he took matters into his own hands. The good mayor stood up, ripped his shirt off, and marched to the streets where he dispensed justice with two massive fists and a devastating pile driver. Here's to you, Mike Haggar, for your political service to this country and your ability to spin like no one has ever spun before.

    I loved this game. The arcade version was superior to all conversions although I played the Amiga version the most.

    It's not supposed to be global. Its supposed to be focused. North America, Japan, and Europe are the largest markets for this type of media. So you are going to see topics aimed at those three areas more often than others.

    to parrot_of_adun :

    Well the thing is that we allow mass immigration in to Sweden and the racists call themselves patriots and nationalists, and if you call yourself a patriot in Sweden often you are dissmissed as one of the racial intolerents that abuses the word. It's the same as the discussion of using the Swedish flag. In the ninthies, There was a serious discussion if people should be allowed to have our national flag in our outside their homes, because it would "send out bad signals of intolerence" to our immigrants, as the racists use our flag so frequently.

    Riddiculus, but true, then, sweden haven't been in a war since a few hundred years ago, I think we might be the country that has maintained peace for the longest period of time in the world, it's funny what effects it seems to have on our nationalism (non existant, we don't celebrate our national day any longer)

    @100starz

    Why is this catered to American patriotism? Because this is America dammit! haha all nonseriousness aside. The article is a shout out to American patriotism in videogames. Look at why Duke Nukem was chosen. The article is a quick relief and comedy. So stop hating on the you-es-ay and I hope you enjoyed your independence day.

    It's an Independence Day feature people. That's it, get over it. Good GOD I've never seen such ridiculous comments over some silly holiday feature.

    What the ... is this article.

    Patriotism is a form of ignorance.

    Uh yeah, weird how the article seems to focus on American patriotism with it being timed to coincide with the 4th of July and all. @gamerfan74: I can defintiely see where you're coming from. Ol' Soap has lended the US a helping hand on many occasions. It just seems like giving him a spot would kind of similar to saluting James Bond as an American patriot, or the French for their invaluable help during the Revolutionary War.

    Eh, kind of a crappy article IMO. Was bored the whole time, especially since just about the whole time it was american patriotism over patriotism in general.

    Patriotism - the belief that your country is the best because you were born in it

    Tom Brady? Really? A guy who benefited from a coaching staff that cheated on numerous occasions? And real nice GS, delete any messages that are negative towards you. Way to take feedback!

    Isn't this getting overly political, people? GS meant this as a simple 4th of July celebration, so let's keep it that way.
