Choosing the most impressive action adventure game of the show wasn't easy because action adventure games are always popular and always make a strong showing at events like E3. But after much debate, we eventually gave the nod to EA DICE's new free-running game Mirror's Edge. Why? Because once we got our hands on it, we couldn't ignore the game's unique control scheme and breakneck pace. Even though, from a distance, Mirror's Edge might almost look like just another first-person shooter, it's a totally different game where your greatest strength is your speed and your greatness weakness--aside from bullets--is losing any of your momentum by not maintaining a continuous run (or leap, or slide). It might sound kind of cool to read about or hear an excited video game developer describe the game, but at E3, we finally had a chance to get our hands on the game, and judging from the brief demonstration we saw, it actually seems like the game may make good on its potential of delivering a cross between a first-person shooter and what is essentially a high-speed first-person platformer. After finally getting the chance to play the game, we have to say that it made a most impressive showing at E3.
