Wtf? No Bioshock: Infinite in the list? That game is one of the most anticipated games of E3 2012. Why didn't it make it on the list?

Chances are, if you played the original sci-fi strategy classic XCOM back in 1994 you have pretty strong feelings about it. Sure, there had been plenty of turn-based strategy games before, but Mythos Games' work was something special. It brought a kind of intimacy to the combat that we'd never seen before, it had a cohesive, structured premise, plus it did something unusual for games of this type; it was scary as hell.
When 2K Games revealed its first idea for a "reimagining" of XCOM as a shooter back at E3 in 2010, we were all pretty disappointed. If you cared, you were bummed. If you had no idea what the franchise was, it was just another shooter with aliens in it. Thankfully, someone was paying attention and called up the guys at Firaxis and got them working on a real reboot in the shape of XCOM: Enemy Unknown. This is a full-on remake of the original, with modern style and sensibilities.
As with the original, all ground combat is completely turn-based, using an isometric tactical view where you have to really think about what you're doing. The game uses a good old-fashioned fog of war to obscure the environment, requires line of sight for your soldiers to make their shots, has destructive environments, and permadeath for your squad members. It is a hairy-chested, beard-wearing strategy game, and we salute it for that.

I am happy the combat will be turn based this game was about thinking and managment at its base and no game since has captured its feel!
@7C7R7N7 That comment makes you sound like the gaming biz thinks all of its customers are, because its not on the lunch box of little kids you dont know it, next time before you make a comment like that read a little, a small amount of looking on your end and you'd know it was one of the best games ever made..
Man I still remember playing XCOM on my DX66mhz 486 with 4mb of RAM lol...up required some scripting in DOS to start it up, but it was a great game, lots of fear factor, and using your imagination of what it was like out there, game-play was very good also for the time, I hope this one lives up to its former glory or even surpasses it... I am very excited about this game, Hope it has some kind of co op mode or vs mode, where u can be the aliens or humans... that will be good... under ground base and mother ship hehehe :-D
i've been waiting on a demo way back on the 360 for the 1st one, how do i get interested in a game series that i'm curious about.
1 Like Forget all those hyped shooters and action games - this is the one that is going to keep you up all night, hunting aliens. Or rather be hunted by them, as you try to save earth from destruction - one battle at a time. Firaxis is doing 95% right - and adding all the bells and whistles, too.
This is the ONLY game I anticipate this year, so much that I am going to get it both on PC and on PS3 (for the platinum trophy). The old XCOM was so good - and this one (from what I have seen) is going to be even more exciting (I can't stand the old visuals and interface anymore, I tried).
First time I've been excited for a Halo game, since apparently Halo 4 will have more customization with the multiplayer. I don't have Xbox Live Gold yet though, lol.
1 Like OMG Yes!! Remake of the greatest game ever made... got to be good. For all you young pups, this is where it all began (along with some others like Civilization etc)
1 Like This series is very "old school" it was an amazing first few games, was a buisness sim running a defence orginization against invaders and you were hired by various nations to do cleanups, was epic, hope they dont ruin my memorys!
