Medal of Honor Heroes 2

Yes, Medal of Honor 2 Heroes for the Wii takes the prize as Most Improved Sequel. Not only because it's a great game, but also because, well, take a look at what the game had to improve on. The Medal of Honor series doesn't necessarily have a really solid track record to begin with, and this game really didn't have an inspiring start.

Let's look at how things had stacked up on this one. This sequel was preceded by Medal of Honor Heroes on the PSP--which was admittedly a decent action game, but on a platform with a completely different control scheme than the Wii--and by the unimpressive Medal of Honor: Vanguard on the Wii. Not exactly an inspiring setup for breakout success. Considering that 2007 also saw the release of numerous shoddy ports of games that were designed for different hardware and controllers but still shoveled onto the Wii to make a quick buck, most people expected Medal of Honor Heroes 2 to be just another lazy cash-in. Instead, the sequel improved on its predecessors in basically every way by not only offering better action as a shooter, but even going so far as to let you do some very cool stuff with the Wii Remote controller, such as using it as a wartime radio or aiming it over your shoulder to fire a bazooka. Even with all the other high-profile sequels that arguably redeemed their forebears, Medal of Honor Heroes 2 is clearly this year's most improved sequel.
