A brutal, interesting shooter which doesn't deliver as much as it could.
Nothing good ever happens in Spec Ops, despite your decisions, something always goes wrong, which leads the game to swerve in a direction which can be boring and repetitive. The combat is good, and reminds of a more realistic Gears of War. The AI's are smart, and will flank you at every available angle, proving a challenge for the player. This is good, as it seems more satisfying then to gun them down when they're about to get the advantage on you. The game itself is pretty realistic, being able to use the environment against your opponents in a sandstorm stricken Dubai is a real thrill, and adds to the immersive gameplay experience. Constantly gunning the same enemies down in places that are laid out pretty much the same becomes annoying however, and towards the end, the only thing keeping you playing is the eagerness to find out what happens next.
Spec Ops has some great ideas, and some good gameplay, but is let down by it's depressing storyline and repetitive gunplay. Spec Ops is ok, but most certainly not as great as it could be, and as you get to the middle of the game, from then on it just drags to a confusing, unworthy conclusion.
