Better than I expected at first and truly engaging. More games should be like Spartan: Total Warrior

It's an impressive game alright. It wasn't on my wish list, I got this one for a loan for 3 months. I was very immersed in this game, until I arrived in a frustrating part and didn't play the game ever since. But then I bought it, it's a very engaging game if you overlook it's negative things.

Spartan is a fast hack-and-slash game. The game starts off in Sparta, and playable character is referred to as Spartan. In the game, all of it is based on missions. You need to complete the objective in order to proceed. Mostly mission require killing, not necessary fighting. The game begins exactly when the Romans, which here are your enemies, are attacking Sparta. Indirectly the game is telling you the beat the life out of them all. Throughout the game you will hear a hard voice sometimes, at first when you kill a lot of people together. Don't worry, he's your ally, for now. The person's voice is the God of War's voice, which in this game is Ares. Don't mistake this with God of War. In God of War you don't get to fight so many guys together.

Combat is really engaging at first. Though a little repetitive. When you're playing note that when you kill enemies, a red circle starts going up. If it's full, press the R1 + X button to kill an enemies, brutal kill. Later in the game when you get more weapons, if you have the blue 'bowl' lit, you can perform a devastating attack, weapons change the attack. This can be done by pressing the R2 + X button to hit only one enemy with a lot of power. To hit a lot of enemies at once, press R2 + O. Note when you kill enemies some green/blue things come out floating. If they are green, they are for health, if there are blue, well lets just say it's for different purposes. There are many bosses and some of them are big, such as the Hydra. Bosses are fairly easy, some of them require skill and strategy. Mainly if you beat a boss you get the weapon that the boss used in the battle against you. When the chapter ends, after your hard work, the game lets gives you 6 coins which you can use them to level up. You can boost health, damage and power. All of them are fundamental. When all your 3 lines are full, the Spartan from warrior becomes a hero. And then if you fulfill hero you will become a ……

There is a little variety of enemies. You will fight Romans for sure, thousands of them and you'll end up fighting the undead. I prefer fighting the Romans since the undead are really good and fast at chasing. As I said there are some bosses and some of them are pretty entertaining. Camera is not quite perfect. To see the action properly you'll have to zoom out of the battlefield. This leads to button-mashing since there will be too much enemies at ones. Zooming in too much gives a good view of the battle but you won't see enemies coming. Voice acting is bad and impacts the story. Sometimes voice acting isn't heard at all in far quarters and sometimes is heard at all. And the one you'll hear isn't so excellent. You'll enjoy most of the game but some missions are terrible. Mostly when you have to protect a person. Let me tell you where I stopped, when in Athens, protect Archimedes, that's frustrating and it got on my nerve and only played the game 2 days ago so I could write this review.

Spartan: Total Warrior isn't as good as God of War is, but it's till a pretty fun game. Spartan feels like can be improved, the action is great, brutal and engaging. Some missions and voice acting mar the story, but if you liked God of War, not everyone, but some will like Spartan. Hack-and-Slash fans should definitely check this one out, at least for rental.
