User Rating: 8.6 | Space Quest 6: Roger Wilco in The Spinal Frontier PC
Back in the mid 80s Sierra decided to develop a long list of adventure games. The list included Quest for Glory, Kings quest, and Police Quest. The Space Quest series followed as the joker of the class. In the very first Space Quest you were introduced to Roger Wilco, a bumbling space janitor. While all of your crew mates on the ship you were on was murdered, you slept peacfully in the janitors closet. As you look around the ship it was overrun by aliens, and you later find out a very important generator from the ship was stolen. The game was played using input text like "look around" or "buy robot" all of this you had to type in. As the seires continued you get captured by an evil genius named Vohaul, escape through an alien forest and thart his plans. In SQ 3 you had to stop an evil company called Scumsoft and the head of Scumsoft, Elmo Pug. In SQ4 Vohaul returns and you have to once agin thwart his plans, this time through time travel and evading the robotic "space police" that he sends after you. SQ5 was I think had to be the black sheep and wasn't very memorable. But all of this was all done using very funny dialog and alwasy got a laugh. In SQ4 a narriator was intorduced and made things even more funny. In the beginning of SQ6 you are stripped of command of your ship from the previous installment, and are once again placed as a janitor on the "Deepship 86." You are then given shore leave and you take a little R and R on a planet called "Polysorbate 60." During your shore leave, you are knocked out by two ugly goons, and that is where the story begins. The game is played out by a few diffrent commands found at the bottom of your screen like look, or touch, or talk. Everything in the game can be examined with pretty funny commentary, and it makes it absolutely fun to look at everything. Even at a few diffrent points in the game Roger will argue with the Narrirator for some very comical moments in the game. The voices are done very well in the game, and make for a great not to cheesy experience. There are a few movie references here, most of them referring to Tango and Cash. The game will take about 10 hours for the first time around, so i'ts pretty short, but you can also increase that time if you stop to look at everything. The gameplay is simply a point and click interface, so there is no real action here, unless you decided to play a little "Stooge Fighter 3," Yes you saw that right. If you are a big fan of the first five Space Qest games, pick this up because it's funnier than ever. If this your first SQ game, play the first ones because there is constant reference to all of the games. But If you want a very comical game, this is a must.
