User Rating: 8.2 | Space Channel 5 Part 2 PS2
Space Channel 5 Special edition is really Space channel 5 Parts 1 and 2. In case you don't know, Space Channel 5 is like a simon-says sytle rythem game in which you copy the pattern of moves in which your enemy just used, also making sure to copy the timing and rythem of what the enemy did to the funky beat. The first part is basically the same thing you had on the dreamcast except for minor differences. These differences are noticable if you own and have recently played the original drecamast version, but not enough to warrent calling it a "remake". It's more like a "re-port". If you didn't buy the original on the dreamcast, this is a very special treat because the game stands the test of time well. Part 2 is what you're really looking for, because there are a number of gameplay tweeks that improve the game. Added is instrument dueling (such as guitars). All you have to do is press any direction on the directional-pad to the beat of what your enemy just did. Lyrics spoken by characters in game are a neat addition as well. Also, there are just general improvements on the formula from part 1 that are difficult to explain, but make the experience smoother. The primary drawback of the game is the insane difficulty. Esentially, the game makes up for it's relative shortness with such unforgiving chanllenges that you have to play the same level over and over and over and over. What could have taken a couple hours tops, ends up taking a much longer time through repetition. The sounds is fantasic though, and you will find yourself looking to download the musical themes online, or import the CD soundtracks. Good luck with that. Overall, a fun, stylish game to jump right into, but possibly frustrating with it's difficulty.
