Space Invaders gameplay for the Intellivision...

User Rating: 8.1 | Space Armada INTV
Space Armada was Intellivision's answer to Atari's Space Invaders. It's a shoot-em-up, though the screen is fixed (it doesn't move horizontally or vertically).

You control a small ship that moves horizontally across the bottom of the screen, shooting several rows of alien ships that migrate left and right, eventually moving down towards you. If the enemy's projectile hits you, you lose a life. If the aliens reach the bottom of the screen, the game is over.

The sound effects are all right, but not very creative or innovative. The graphics are equally bland; there are not different alien types beyond the second level.

The gameplay is what makes this game; it harkens back to when getting to the highest level or the highest score was the most important thing. It's still a game I pull out and play regularly, just to feel the frenzy once the pace picks up. The control is very responsive, making it a twitchy shooting delight!
