I found Soviet Strike to be a pretty fun game but also extremely difficult, but definetly a fun game and worth playing.

Soviet Strike, a pretty early game for the Playstation by EA games, and is another entry in the Strike series from the old Genesis and SNES days. I found this game to be pretty fun at times, but sometimes very fustrating and difficult. Now I have played the old Strike games before this one but i dont really remember them too well and what i do remember is that i wasnt getting to frustrated with them as I was with this game, but I didn't have as much fun playing it as I did this one either.

The story of game has you in control of a mysterious helicopter going under the name as the commander. You are employed by an organization known as STRIKE, who existence is to find any situations that could escalate to a possible big war and remove the threat before anything out of control can happen. The first mission has you going into an area to find one of your team mates and rescuing him while also trying to locate any clues on where a person under the name of Shadowman could be, who is the person responsible for what is going on. You will play through a total of five, very hard campaign missions each one as you complete objectives and look for Shadowman, while each mission you complete the next is harder. In the menu, you beable to set up you helicopter with what weapons you want, the controls for your flying machine, watch STRIKE files, save/load game, enter passwords, adjust audio and start you next mission, but only one unlockable.

The difficulty of the game is very hard. The reason i say that is because you only can get so many lives per mission and when you run out of them thats it game over and you have to restart that mission. Now this wouldn't be a problem if the missions weren't so long or if there were save points within the missions, but there isn't. You have to be very strategic in this game because just simply flying into an enemy controlled zone and trying to blast everyone away will most likely end up getting you killed. You have to be constantly aware of the fuel, ammo, and armor of you helicopter in this game and know where all the supply drops are or you may end up having to replay the missions over and over again so become very familar with the map in the game as it shows you where items should be and along with what your mission objectives are and where they are. This game is not for the people who dont have any patience with stuff because if you are one of those people then you will get pretty angry with this game as I have with it. One thing cool with this game is that all the buildings and trees and people/enemys and vehicles within the mission are destructable.

Gameplay 8/10- The gameplay I think is very well in terms of controlling you helicopter, but the hard difficulty of the game made it frustrating as missions are very long or atleast seem to be and if you lose all of your lives then you forced to restart the mission, and theres no way to make the game easier unless you cheat that is, but wheres the fun in that?

Graphics 7/10- The graphics aren't really too good on this game. The helicopter looks pretty good along with the enemy vehicles, but the people look like crap and the explosions dont look the best either. But the live action videos are cool.

Sound 7/10- The sound in this game is pretty good. The soundtrack is ok, along with the dialogue, which at times can be pretty funny with what some of the soliders say or secret characters you can find such as a well known vampire in the translyvania mission. The missles sound ok but the chaingun fire can get pretty annoying at times.

Replay Value 6/10- There isn't much reason to keep playing through this game. It is fun your first time through but with not really any unlockables except for an extra STRIKE file you can watch, but nothing to keep you playing through the game over and over again. Though a good game to come back to for some difficulty challange.

Reveiwers tilt 8/10
Total score 7.5/10

Bottom line- Pretty fun game, very difficult though, but worth adding to you collection. Though this game isn't really a quick pick up and play then put down kind of game.
