So I guess it got a 9.0 because you don't have regenerating life.

It looks boring. And ugly. I didn't like the art style at all.

As someone who isn't typically drawn to indie platformers, I am really surprised how pleasing the gameplay of Sound Shapes is. It looks so simplistic yet it constantly introduces new challenges and environments and never gets repetitive.

Great game. One of the best games on a handheld ever. I havent played the PS3 version but this game is AWESOME. Really pleased with how this turned out. I will definitely support DLC for this title with more albums etc... I hope for a larger grid and different times for the music. I you want to prepare for LBP Vita next month this is a good choice too. All on its own though this is a unique game that truly captures what gaming is all about.

this game is simply amazing, sooo much fun and creating levels and playing other levels people have created are just extra greatness, i really really love my vita a lot and i cannot wait for the upcoming games i literally work to buy games. if you dont have a vita you need to get one fast, in my  opinion.

Hmm, looks like I have another reason to get a PS3. Then again, this would be great if they made a PC version!

we are running out of ideas when we have to create musical platformers, next they are going to create call of duty, beat ops

@partybro Or coming up with new, awesome ideas. Frankly, I don't care as long as the game is good.

I'm surprised Tom, I thought you would've given it a 5.0

@Rohan233 No, Tom likes games that are new ideas and hates those that are old.  His favorite games were those like Phantom Trick: Ghost Detective.  Tom needs to only review those games that are indie games or very original full console ones.  We all know what happens if he plays an excellent game with a known formula like Zelda.  He complained throughout the Zelda review that it was due to a lack of originality, even though the rest of us buy it because it's what we love and don't want changed.

Was this made by the peope that made Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery? Some of the guys look very similar...

Tom, you're really good at reviewing games, but you're killing me with these middle school principal speeches in the video reviews. I know you're more of a fun person than that. It seems like any second you're going to be like, "and some of you might be excited to learn that we have installed 2 vending machines in the cafeteria with soft drinks and snacks so... enjoy those..." Loosen up a bit and remember you're talking about games. Also, I would have liked to hear more of the music that makes this game so great. Otherwise, cool and unique looking game and good review. I'll definitely be checking this out.

How come all these arty indie games are 2d platformers? Has anyone else noticed this trend? Braid, Outland, Limbo, Super meat boy and im sure theres more. A lot of people complain about FPS oversaturation and thats true, there are too many of them. But there seems to be quite a lot of 2d platformers appearing nowadays.

@deadpeasant Look at the variety in the games you mentioned. There's a very big difference between Fez and Closure, for instance, even though they're both 2D platformers. People are sick of the sameness of FPS (yay! more realistic military style guns and linear level desigh!) and indie platformers are diverse enough that they avoid this problem.

deadpeasant
deadpeasant

@TomMcShea I agree there are differences between these games. But that kind of argument is very similar to the argument that is put forward by people defending COD versus Battlefield or vise versa. The similarities are those of any FPS but the extra features are what are sited as making them different.

My concern is that like FPS genre games, people may end up with an oversaturation of 2d platformers aswell. And it seems that even though there are differences  between modern 2d platformers as there are between FPS. The most fundamental gaming conventions are not really being challenged. Like jumping from platform to platform and other basics.

not all but many do games in 2d because it's easier to design, decorate, fashion and debug (etc?)

it's also cheaper. and the results are surprisingly pleasing.

Tom said it's "an amorphous blob," but doesn't it look like an eyeball covered in eyeball-fluids? The little dot in the middle is like the pupil, and points in the general direction that you're headed.

Funny that he didn't talk too much about the level creator, and for me its the most interesting aspect of this game. Between this and LBP i'll be creating a lot more than playing.

@HatakeHyei I feel you. I'm probably going to finish the game but when I first tried it out I was making music and creating levels for hours. It's really that fun!

Very cool looking game, but because Tom just goes on and on about the different levels and obstacles, I thought I was watching a trailer or an interview about the game... Get to the point already, if I decide to buy it, I'll learn about these things in the game later. But, none-the-less, I'll probably buy it.

As someone who has actually played it, I have to agree with Tom (for once). This game is a must. The best part, buy it once, get it for both ps3 and vita.
