I've played all the Tekkens and own Tekken 3 for the PSX and I have to say they are really poor fighting games, just way to slow and cumbersome to be considered 'fun'. Then the developer who made those games; Namco go and make one hell of a 3D fighter that to this day still IS the number one 3D fighter. I mean hell not even Soul Calibur 2 and 3 live up to the standards of this game, they are medicore in comparison.
Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast really did set the new standards for 3D fighters and yet here we are nearly 10 years later and not a single game has surfaced to expel it. Soul Calibur really is in the computer games industry a true example of 'standing the test of time'.
