- "Disappointing"
When I bought Soul Calibur 2 I thought it would be the modern version of the Tekken series. But after playing the game for the first ten hours I thought this game was going to be the next Street Fighter. But the end result is just an average fighting game. It looks damn good at first when you load it up and you start to get into the game, then the fun starts to fade away and the gaming experience goes backwards rather than forwards. There just isn't enough options in Soul Calibur 2, and I thought the only reason for playing the game was for its story mode. But even then after a while the story drags on and starts to get boring and you just want to rush into your next fight.
The Graphics look damn good for a fighting game and the characters look pretty cool and interesting and the levels designs look very good and well designed. But combat gets too repetitive and the game starts to go arcade style.
There's nothing wrong with the sound and I thought Namco did a job well done with all the different sound tones for each character. But the fighting music going on in the background, you just don't seem to notice and it leaves a very empty, non- inspiring feel while to your fights.
All I say is stick with Tekken and don't bother going with Soul Calibur 2 , because your better off buying true fighting games with an long lasting experience like Super Smash Bros, Melee or Mortal Kombat: Deception. I just hope Soul Calibur 3 has inspiration behind it.

Never before has a game of any genre had me so engrossed in the first thirty minutes of play than Soul Calibur II.

Soul Calibur II is a game that you can enjoy with just about anyone, as long as they're prepared for the crazy costumes.
