Early Access Review - Not Bad!

User Rating: 8 | Sons of the Forest (Early Access) PC

After enjoying about 80 hours of the game, I can say that it's not bad, but I do hope it'll improve in time.

Graphics: 10 - Superb; This is a huge huge upgrade from The Forest, the seasons, the vegetation, the day/night cycle offers spectacular beauty. Nothing bad that I can think of.

Story: 4 - The story follows the same kind of path as the game's predecessor, but it fails to keep you engaged. I just finished the game but to be honest, I don't really know what the story was about; as to the game's end, you get to make a choice in the end but be careful, as there are no hints in regards to what your choice is about; I for example have mistakenly chosen to stay on the island, literally by mistake, as the game offered no clear decision/action description; so I played so many hours and did not even get to see the end; I'll check on YouTube, nvm.

Sound : 8,5 - The sound is great, the music is in line with what we were used to from The Forest, being in high contrast to the environment (contrast between the wild and the high tech constructions on the island).

Gameplay: 7,5 - The gameplay is excellent, it has some major improvements to The Forest, meaning, you get a bit less of a grind, but on the other hand it falls a bit short with it's depth, as it does feel a bit hastened and due to the abundance of everything on the island, the rapid respawn rate, and the fact that building a shelter is mostly for esthetic reasons, the note here does feel higher than it should be. But I loved the action all around, the fighting felt very fresh and I could not get enough of it. A good variety of enemies. But in it's current state all in all it leaves you with a feeling of emptiness.

Atmosphere: 8 - The atmosphere is good, but not as good as in The Forest. The surprise factor in the end of The Forest, getting into that high tech laboratory was superb and I will never forget the feeling. Nothing like that here, you get to change the environments very often and this makes you lose the taste very fast. The caves are nice, but not by far as scary as they were in the first installment. Also adding so many powerful guns did not help at all.
