While this collection doesn't included some of the greatest hits ever, it does include many old favorites.

Being an old-school gamer, I was eagerly looking forward to the "high def" version of these old Genesis/Mega Drive classics. I wasn't disappointed.

To begin with, they priced this one moderately at just $30. That's a good price for a retro-system collection. I just would not have paid $60 for it.

In terms of sound and graphics, I wasn't disappointed. The classic sounds of all the games are there and are superb, the high definition versions look for the most part excellent. The great thing about the collection is that; if you prefer the old school square screen or don't like something about the HD presentation, you can easily switch back to the old 4:3 square original presentation.

As far as the collection goes, there are some games that are very worthy of being included that you can enjoy. Of course, there are some glaring omissions if we're talking about the "Ultimate Collection," but getting 49 games by my count for $30 makes it difficult to complain. Everyone has their "favorites," and that comes down to personal opinion.

Being able to save in-game at any point is excellent. If you remember sitting down for marathon sessions with games that had no battery back-up save options, you'll dig this. I can remember sitting down at Sonic 2 in particular back in the day and figuring I was either going to beat the game, or just quit when I got tired of it.

In terms of letdown, I was moderately disappointed in the 360 accomplishments that are given. With this amount of games that had so many hidden features and tricks, there could have been a wealth of accomplishments to unlock. Instead, there are very few and some are just silly. Merely starting Altered Beast garners you both an unlockable and an achievement on the 360.

No online multiplayer? I don't really understand that one. Some of these games were best enjoyed as co-op. It should've been a simple add-on.

The in-game unlockables are somewhat of a letdown too. Interviews? Meh, don't really care about 'em. It comes down to opinion once again, but I could've forseen adding some great games as unlockables, but the feats needed to unlock are rather easy and the rewards are rather weak. Oh well.

Overall, if you're a huge fan of the Genesis and would love to be able to use your new console without digging out the old Genesis out of the attic or basement, you should enjoy this collection. Too bad they couldn't have "spiced it up," a bit more with online options, better unlockables and achievements and so forth.
