Let's get right down to it. A good try at Sonic in 3D.

This game has many good things to it, as well as bad. But it's a relief to play the game's best parts. The day stages are to die for, but the night stages will put you to sleep. Yet the game isn't full of glitches and and useless characters which is a plus when you look back at some of the past games. (I'm talking about you Sonic 2006.) But one of the bad things about the Wii/PS2 version of the game is you're missing two levels, though you do get the boss fight from one. But a plus side is the fact there is text hub worlds.

Without ruining anything about the story I'll tell you this about the plot of it. Soinc and Eggman are fighting it out once again when Eggman tricks Soinc and steals the power of the Chaos Emeralds and turns Sonic into the Werehog. Sonic is sent down to Earth and has to restore the power of the Chaos Emeralds and stop whatever Eggman is trying to get. What's good about the game is that you don't play as anyone, but Sonic even though it's Night stages are not as fun as the Day Stages it's still Sonic. The only characters that rear their ugly heads are Tails and Amy, though that's alright. Chip serves as the guy to tell you what to do when you first start the game, and past the he's only there for the story.

Day Stages will send you all over the world. China, the Arctic, and Europe are just a few place. You run through the town during the day and then do some missions. The stages themselves are fast paced and full of the branching paths. You will have the camera go from 3D to 2D from time to time giving you a 2D Sonic games feel. They're also full of loops, springs, and rails that we all know and love from the 2D games. You also have many different moves like the homing attack, quick steep, and drifting for turning. You can find items like art, videos, or music within the stages (as well as the Night ones) that give you meaning to come back and play some more. Also there's ranking S, getting you three medals, A, getting you two, B, landing you one, and C, getting you none. Later you need these to unlock doors at the different temples you go to where you can get keys to unlock differnet missions, exrta lives, or more items like before.

Night Stages are slow and more fighting based. You run around for a bit then run into some bad guys, fight them and 3 more waves to unlock walls that block your way like in the TMNT games and move on to some more platforming. Doing that for about three to five minutes get you through one night stage. Great job now you got two or three more to go before you can even think about playing another day stage. But you do unlock new combos that you can shake you Wii mote back a worth with. Thing of button mashing, but worse. You also have the ranking system that's based on how much time you spent in the stage, how many rings you got, and how many Dark Gaia orbs you picked up. Luckily you don't have to play these stages over much.

The hub worlds like I said before are text.Just point and click to do things and later on you can switch form day to night at will. You can also unlock different items here by talking to the people. From here or from the world map you can go to the Gaia temples that hold different rooms that you can open after you've gotten some many medlas from the day and night stages. you can also go to the day, night, or boss stages or even go to a different temple.

The graphics for the game are some of the best on the Wii. It's bug and glitch free and everything runs smooth. The stages look great and so do the cut scenes. Even though it's a down grade from the Xbox360/PS3 version it still looks great. The music is also more old school. No Crush 40 to be heard in this game. Each stage has a jazz like song that comes from the area of the world you're in. But the voice acting isn't at it's greatest though.

Pros: Fast paced day stages, no glitches, text hub worlds, not many friends, you can use a GameCube controller.

Cons: Slow night stages, an unbalance between the day and night stages.

In the end the Wii/PS2 version of the game is slightly better then that of it's Xbox360/PS3 brother because of the text based hub worlds. Though this game does a lot of good, it's not there yet. But this shows that the Sonic Team can make a good game.
