Sonic and his greatest rivals come together for this surprisingly fun racer

User Rating: 8 | Sonic Rivals PSP
To start off, I have to say that this game deserves more credit than it gets because it is one of the funnest PSP games to date (it's in my top 5 anyway).

In the game, you will get to choose between 1 of 5 characters who are Sonic, Shadow, Silver, Knuckles, and Metal Sonic (unlockable). Then you can race in either story mode, challenge mode, or multiplayer (wireless play). In story mode, each rival has their own story line which I will not get to deep into right now. This is how you unlock each level for challenge mode. In challenge mode, you choose your playable character and your rival. Then you choose your level to play in, and difficulty. The difficulty doesn't make the level harder as it does increase the difficulty of the list of things to do like in easy you have to collect 150 rings where as in hard you have to collect 250 rings and so on.

When you win these challenges, you win a card for every thing you did on the list. You will also get a card for every level you pass in story mode. The cards are used to customize your character's looks. By that I just mean you can give them clothes. Each three set of cards will unlock a new accesorie for your character (between suits, gloves, and shoes).

As for it being hard, I would say it has a challenge to it, but it's not throw your PSP against the wall hard. Just keep trying and realize what happened so you can try to prevent and be more alert next time and you'll get it. I would say the hardest part of the game is completing the challenges.

My thoughts of the game: this game is definately worth the wait and is living proof that Sonic isn't finished yet. The game has plenty to do, great graphics, addicting fun races, and plenty of cards to collect as well as (as almost every Sonic fan wants)...PLENTY OF SPEED! My only complaint for this game is that the badniks in each level come up to quickly and it's hard to see them coming up.

So, if you own a PSP and love racing, sonic, or both, then this game is definately worth taking a glance at. If you're disappointed in the next-gen for the Xbox 360 (which I haven't played yet but I still want to try it), then this should be just the thing to get you back into Sonic games.
