Sonic's classic 2D roots were made for the PSP.

User Rating: 8 | Sonic Rivals PSP
It's simple as that, simplicity sometimes works perfectly to make for a truly entertaining game. But not many, including myself believe that is enough. Sonic Rivals is indeed one of the finer additions to the Sonic saga, very enjoyable, challenging, and fun. However certain areas lack GREATLY in Rivals. The story is very child-oriented, the voice acting is good, you know, for a few words and expressions, but Rivals should have actual voice acting done, not just a few words and expressions. The levels were well structured, but only six levels, acts one and two and the occasional boss can be done in the course of an entire day if someone truly wanted to do so. More importantly is replay value. It's fun to redo specific parts to the game, but having no infrastructure races makes this game a lot less enjoyable, and the cards generally pointless.

But Sonic Rivals makes up for its' flaws with very classic style Sonic gameplay. If you own a PSP, then Sonic Rivals is indeed an entertaining game worth purchasing, but lifespand won't be it's highest point.
