A slap in the face from Sega to its gamers...

User Rating: 5.5 | Sonic Jam SAT
As a VERY loyal Sega fan and Saturn owner (one of the few), I was waiting for the day that Sega would finally do something right with the Saturn by coming out and releasing a 3D Sonic the Hedgehog game (and no, I don't mean Sonic "3D" Blast!) that would reward us loyal fans that purchased an otherwise disappointing console that was on its last legs. Needless to say, all that Sonic Jam managed to do is enrage and disappoint me even further!

The game was released purely for nostalgic purpose, and is more of an hommage of sorts to the Sonic 16-Bit era (when it was actually successful) rather than a fresh new Sonic title in itself. It includes all 4 classic Sonic titles, as well as a bunch of extras such as various tid-bits in Sonic history, TV commercials, etc.

This isn't so much the part that irritated me the most though. It was the inclusion of one other extra that really had my blood boiling. Including in this game was somewhat of a 3D Sonic mini-game of sorts, where you are able to run around and roam around in a wide open 3D environment to explore and unlock various other game extras. If anything, it was nothing more than a tease and a reminder of what us Saturn owners could've and SHOULD'VE had from an actual Sonic the Hedgehog 3D title (read up on Sonic Xtreme on Wikipedia when you get a chance).

If this game was meant to say anything, it was that the Saturn's relatively short existence was already coming to an end, and this title was nothing more than a reminder of yet another console failure on the part of Sega.
