Sonic is back and leaving all of his past game problems behind.

User Rating: 8 | Sonic Generations PS3
There hasn't been a really good Sonic game since the Megadrive days and Dreamcast days, past Sonic games like the 2006 version and Sonic Unleashed which everyone almost hated back then. Sonic Generations is the only sonic game that is possibly the best sonic title for next-gen consoles, however Sonic Generations marks over 20 years of the Blue Hedgehog that has strike over a million people all over the world.

Main plot is more of a spin-off title where pretty much Sonic and his friends celebrate his birthday. A mysterious being known as Time Eater suddenly appears, destroying the party and sucking everyone through various "time holes", scattering them across different places in history. This is where Classic Sonic and Modern Day Sonic decide to team up and save their friends and their world from the Time Eater.

Gameplay: There will be two ways in playing Sonic Generations played from two perspectives. Classic Sonic sections are played from a 2D perspective which we all knew and loved back in the 90's and Modern Sonic levels are from a 3D perspective. You'll be speeding through eras from Classic, Dreamcast and Modern, each you'll go through will be based on a classic level from each sonic game; such as Green Hill zone, Chemical Plant, City Escape and Planet Wisp.

The Classic Sonic levels may bring back a few memories for those who did play the classic Sonic games on the Megadrive, and throughout the Classic Sonic some of the levels can be a little tricky but fun at the same time. And you would have thought the Modern day sonic levels would be terrible and sitting through cheap deaths in most levels but you'll end up not seeing any of those problems.

But however the last 3 levels during gameplay in the modern day Sonic the levels are about the same as original titles you may see some Deja vu moments and the odd cheap death and annoying camera system. Both elements both blend in really well with a variety of challenges and boss fights with Dr Eggman and Sonic's Rivals.

Graphics and Sound: The stage designs of each level from sonic games have been given a great make-over making them all shiny and very dazzling to look at. The levels from both levels from Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic are about the same as you remember them from the beginning of Green Hill which is in 2D with a few changes here and there though most of the levels.

And the modern Sonic levels like City Escape and Seaside Hill about the same as you may remember them but like I said a few changes here and there but that won't bother you that much. If you have a Sony HD TV you can actually play this in 3D if you wanted to, and there aren't any camera issues to begin but like I said the last two levels- Crisis City and Rooftop Run will have their problems on its camera.

The soundtrack is as perfect as it was back then on its various levels throughout the game, but later levels for Classic Sonic the soundtracks from the Modern day Sonic levels have been remixed making them more retro and techno to hear and listen. The voice acting isn't that great on a few odds characters that do appear including Vector which no one seems to like but apart from that you've still got the same actors for the rest of the sonic characters in the series.

Overall: I've been a Sonic fan for over the past 12 years of my life and playing through certain levels again have brought me back memories and moments. Switching back and forth from Classic and Modern Day Sonic levels are fun but can be a little annoying going back up down, and there are also collectables to pick up and challenges to complete. But the challenges are that hard to beat, and collecting red rings are scatted from the various levels by collecting 5 in each level.

Online trophy support is added where most of them are easy to collect but a few of them will take a little time to get. Online is also added where players can beat other player's time and their fastest running across a level. Beating the main story can easily take you up to a maximum of 10 hours or less pending on how much you want to get out of a Sonic game.

This is yet a worthy sonic game worth picking up either rent or buy from stores, like everyone else has mentioned Sonic is back and let's hope it stays that way.
