Finally, another great Sonic game!
Generations gives two versions of Sonic to play through: the original "classic sonic" a shorter, thankfully more quiet Sonic and the unfortunately more talkative "modern sonic". Each level has two main acts, one with each Sonic as they try to save their friends from an evil boss. Classic Sonic's levels are in more of a classic 2-D format while Modern Sonic is more of a 3-D adventure.
In the couple of hours I have spent with this game I have had a fun time with both Sonics, but I must say using the Classic Sonic is slightly more fun. If you're an old fart like me or just someone who enjoys classic gaming you will be treated to an HD flashback as you traverse through re-imagined levels from the various Sonic games in a more retro style. Speaking of HD, Sonic has never looked better no matter which Sonic you are using. Although I prefer the Classic Sonic levels over the Modern Sonic ones I have to say that Modern Sonic is fun to play as well. The controls are quite responsive, but there are times when both Classic and Modern Sonics would either make a mis-step or not attack when prompted. I'm chaulking this up to my suckiness rather than any control problems.
There are a lot of unlockables which are aquired by collecting red stars through the levels as well as bonus challenge levels that unlock once you complete both acts. Having pre-ordered this at Gamestop I also have a pinball level that is from Sonic 2. Over all Sonic Generations is a true tribute to the blue hedgehog and much better than Nintendo's Wii re-issue of an SNES cartridge.
