There were more gems to Be gathered and Sonic Gems Collection doesn't have enough to make up for the missing titles.

User Rating: 6.5 | Sonic Gems Collection GC
Hey guys ShaolinTurtle here with his 5th review! and this time it's an underrated collection game called sonic gems collection. So is This game really a Rare Treasure Chest Full of Gems? or is it a Bag full of Trash? Lets Find Out.

Presentation 8.0: you got the game loading up and the screen with the Sega Logo the classic Jingle with it as well! and then a title screen with a good mix of classic artwork. and the menu looks pretty and full of colors so the game totally looks great.

Games/Game play 6.5: Well the main 3 games are Sonic The Fighters, the humorous cartoony arcade fighter that mysteriously never got a home port, Sonic The Hedgehog CD the rare action game for the Sega CD that had Sonic The Hedgehog traveling through time, and Sonic R the rather plain Racing game with Sonic and Friends. The Rest of the games include 6 game gear titles previously included in sonic adventure DX and the genesis games that have nothing to do with sonic Vector Man and Vector Man 2. (Would have been better if you unlocked Knuckles Chaotix and SegaSonicTheHedgehog instead). But I'm just going to be telling you about the main 3 seeing as you'll play those most. (This Section is the total score i'd give all three put together.)

Sonic The Fighters: Sonic The Fighters is a parody of Sega's Virtua Fighter Series so you know what it plays like, It has 8 characters to choose from Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Espio, Bark, Bean, and Fang. The story is that Dr. Eggman is wants the 8 chaos emeralds (yes an 8th emerald but lets just say it's a piece of Amy's jewelry or a fake emerald.) to take over the world once again and sonic and friends set out to stop him because tail's Lunar Fox is only a single seater they decide to have a ridiculous fighting tournament for the emeralds. As fun as this game is, there are too many game breaking rules that can make it frustrating. Like the player 1 overrules player 2 rule. example: if two players are being a character that can perform the spin dash player 1's always hits and player 2 always gets cancelled out. and the Knuckles rule. Example: When playing as Knuckles the arguably top tier character you can get out of almost any combo from opponents by pressing the dodge button while they're hitting you and then follow it up with any attack you want, Where as with other characters you can only dodge when swung at not hit and you can only follow up with a specific attack. But other than this Sonic The Fighters is an enjoyable experience.

Sonic R: There is not much to say about this game but mediocre. I mean the music is good but that's it. All you do is run and jump.(which Amy and Eggman can't do.) That's right no power ups to slow your opponents down or nothing you just run. the story is in the manual not the game so I won't be telling it. You can beat this whole game in under 20 minutes (yes that includes beating the secret characters in challenge races and getting all the chaos emeralds.) So there's nothing really to like or hate about this game, it's just clearly unfinished.

Sonic The Hedgehog CD: Sonic CD is probably the best of the 3 it's one of the more platforming over speed Sonic games though. The games story involves Dr. Eggman trying to travel in time with the power of the time stones to make a future where he rules over the planet, however Our Hero Sonic knows about this and intends to stop him. This game also marks the debut of Metal Sonic and Amy Rose. Anyways Sonic meets Amy and she is instantly in love with him (obviously sonic doesn't share the same feelings.) anyways Eggman test's his ultimate creation Metal Sonic by kidnapping Amy and luring Sonic into a trap. Sonic sets out to rescue her as well as the future. The game lets sonic perform the Spindash from sonic 2 (it's just harder to use.) and the super peel out a dash that let's Sonic be invincible for a quick sec. The key point of this game is to find time post labeled past or future then go a fast enough speed to warp sonic into the time period. where you will then try to make good futures out of them. After each stage just like Sonic 1 if you have 50 rings you'll see a giant ring and if you jump in you'll be taken to the special stage. in the special stage you'll try to get the time stones by taking out all the badniks on the field. Collecting all the time stones or not will result in you getting the good or bad ending which aren't very different. Sonic CD is an awesome experience and is defiantly the strongest point in the game.

Graphics 8.0: All the games have great colorful graphics excusing sonic spinball for game gear being the only game that was dark and menacing like.
Sonic The Fighters is the game that offers the best in graphics though.

Sound 8.5: The music for almost every game besides the Vector Man ones are awesome. You can even Unlock Awesome remixes for the museum as well.

Replay Value 6.5: Seeing as the games are just decent for the most part you can't see yourself playing this game everyday of the week but the unlockables at the museum can keep you playing for a while.

Extras 7.0: The extras are good for the most part you get to look at the manuals of each game besides Vector Man 1 and 2 and you can unlock hints for each game and the best part is that there is a museum that holds various sonic art for games and more plus demos of past classics that require you to do a certain mission. So the game has some good extras as you can see.

Overall 6.5 out of 10: this game could have used more than this and could use more work before actually calling it a "GEMS COLLECTION" It's still enjoyable though. I personally think the addition of Knuckles Chaotix and SegaSonicTheHedgehog would have done wonders for this game.

Anyways thanks for reading you guys! once again this is ShaolinTurtle going back into his shell. See ya!
