Comparing Sonic to Mario in 2D platformers is close but this is nowhere near a Mario Kart beater.

In 2D platformers it's close and probably to hard to call between Sonic and Mario. A few years after Mario World Mario Kart is launched and is amazing. Sonic tries to rival it with Sonic Drift nowhere near Mario Kart. The tracks are horrible. The gameplay is way below Mario Kart standards which makes Sonic Drift possibly the worst racing game by a gaming mascot. Sonic and pals are quiet popular in games like Sonic Cd and Sonic 2 but come on he is never gonna be as good as Mario. To me in terms of the game it is just poor as a racing game stick to 2D platforming. Crash Team Racing was way better than this as well.
