"Surprisingly good"
Final Score: 9.0/10 (A-)

I've been a huge Sonic fan for as long as I can remember (hence Blueguy93), but in recent years even I can tell that Sonic's been on a downward spiral. With Sonic Colors, however, Sega finally learned how to make a good Sonic game! I can't tell you how great it feels to finally play a Sonic game that's simple and fun. Sonic Colors is the best Sonic game since the Dreamcast days thanks to its simple gameplay and off the charts eye candy.

Basically, Dr. Eggman has made an amusement park in space, claiming to have a new leaf (yeah right). Of course, Sonic and Tails (just Sonic and Tails, thank god) go to investigate this amusement park. When you start the game, you'll notice two things. The first is the detailed scenery surrounding you, and the second is that the gameplay is similar to Sonic Adventure. It occasionally switches to a 2D plane in some levels, which makes the best of both worlds. The speed in the game is sensational, and it made me go to the bathroom (I was crapping nostalgia).

The levels in Sonic Colors are all about fun. the varied stages include a spring grassland, a starlight stage, a roller coaster stage, a Sonic Simulator (!), and even a candy coated paradise, which was my personal favorite. All of these zones are fun and simple. Even the water stages are fun thanks to an unlimited jump span in the water and its asian buildings.

But the NUMBER ONE reason why Sonic Colors is the best effort Sonic Team's made in a while is that Sega FINALLY realized that the gimmicks had to go! Actually, you get to to morph into creatures such as a laser, a drill, a hulk like monster, and a flying blob, but these are fun to use and never wear out their welcome. The levels are short and sweet, and exciting moments include a floating walkway similar to Mario Galaxy, and floating water. I love the boss battles, which allow you to interact with the scenery in a number of ways. And thankfully, only Sonic is playable. The Sonic Sim levels are extremely fun and allow you to collect Chaos emeralds. The controls are responsive and the camera does a great job of viewing the action, adding bonus points.

Sonic Color's does have a number of flaws. The platform jumping got on my nerves after a while, and the zero gravity stages (a rip off of Mario Galaxy) are not needed in a game like this. The cutscenes suck as usual, although I found Eggman's interactions with his henchmen mildly amusing (Idiot, get me more aliens).

The graphics are fantastic. The stages look beautiful, and the fast framerate allows for beautiful angles. The music is also fantastic, and the game over music is the best I've heard in a while.

Despite its tedious platforming, Sonic Colors is a winner. It's challenging, fun, and looks and sounds great. It's just as fun as the old Sonic games, and the clashes with enemies and treadmills brings back the old days of the 90's and early 2000's. Fear not Sonic fans, Sonic Colors is a game I can easily recommend to you guys, thanks to its gameplay lacking the dumb gimmicks of Sonic Unleashed and the horrible controls of Sonic and the Secrets Rings. My friend Justin and I spent days playing this game, and we really couldn't get enough. You can also play for high score. Go get it now, or regret a great deal.
