Completely disappointed with the sequel.

Sure, there are more playable characters this time around but it's not particularly fun to play as any of them. Even the slayers aren't that great which makes almost no sense seeing as the combat system in the original was well above the average fighting game. Buffy and Faith play exactly the same, they don't even have different slayer moves, but I suppose that's just a little nit picky. The fact that they play the same wouldn't be a bad thing as long it was fun, but it just isn't. None of the moves work the way they should, when there is an enemy behind you, you no longer automatically back kick, and most of the enemies run out of health in a matter of a combo. You can also now play as Spike (Buffy without the kicks), Willow, Xander, and Sid the Dummy. Willow I suppose is the most unique, although after ten minutes of playing she gets tiresome. She has several spells, only a few are useful. Aside from casting she can also pummel the enemy and then stake them but that doesn't work particularly well seeing as she can't form combos and most of the enemies are faster than she is. Xander is essentially a slower version of Spike but is more reliant on weapons than brute force. The weapons are fairly useless and I found myself using them when the enemy was at almost zero health as they save you the job of staking them. The last character to be added is Sid the Dummy, yeah playing as a Dummy is amusing but it's also pretty stupid. You punch vampires in the knees, they run out of health, you jump up and stab them in the heart. He doesn't have any combos aside from a string of punches so it's just repetitious gameplay for an hour or so until the level is completed. Then again, that's what the entire game has become. The fights are no longer varied or fun, there's no sense of danger when you run into an enemy, and there's no point in using different combos because all of them do the same thing. In the previous game some of the combos would trip the enemy, send them back, etc, but in the sequel, by the time a combo is done, the enemy is dead and you can just stake them.
The gameplay is also changed by adding several puzzles and fetch quests. I'm a big fan of varying up gameplay and adding in fun puzzles but these are just stupid. You do a lot of switch flipping and key finding but none of it is interesting or unique. You run in a straight line, "fight" enemies as they come at you, and then "solve" the puzzle by picking something up. They're the same puzzles you've done countless times before, only this time they're made even less fun due to dreadful combat and boring gameplay.
The only redeeming aspect of this game is the graphics. There are some nice particle effects in the game, although staking vampires no longer looks as good. The environments are decent and there's a good amount of variety in them and there aren't as many jaggies as in the first one. The character models are decent, although when they're in action they often look silly. Buffy and Willow no longer resemble their real life counterparts, they're both wide eyed doll like impressions. Altogether though it all looks fairly decent.
The sound is also ok, but not as good as the first time around. The voice acting is ok, the stand in they found for Sarah Michelle Gellar does a great job. The stand in for Willow is decent, although it's noticeable that it's not Allison Hannigan. The one liners that are uttered during fights are now repeated even more and none of them are funny or worth hearing. It was once endearing, now it's like nails on a chalkboard. The music is pretty standard, soft when you're just walking around but it gets louder and faster when you encounter an enemy. Overall it's an average affair, the voice acting is good but it's too repetitive, and the music is forgettable and doesn't exactly add to the atmosphere.
All in all Chaos Bleeds is an awful sequel to an absolutely great game. The original had so much potential and it could have become a truly lucrative franchise, but this just absolutely ruined it. If they are ever to make another Buffy sequel, Eurocom should not be given the liberties. Please folks, do not buy this game. I read so many negative reviews and said "but the first was so good, I doubt it's as bad as they say." the reviews were right. Believe them, don't waste your money or play this awful sequel, it will just make you angry.
