It makes a good Mario Kart clone but the commentator is incredibly annoying.

User Rating: 8 | Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing WII
In the past games starring Sonic trying to rip off Mario in the past has back fired but this racing game no only turns out to be a good clone it actually is fun to play.

Modes

The game has plenty Grand Prix,Split Screen multiplayer, single race,King of the Hill,Capture the Chao,Mission Mode and Free Race,Collect the Emeralds,Time Trial and of course online play.

Gameplay

It actually is a mix of Smash Bros and Mario Kart. The example being.A kart racer and SEGAS character roster. So it is a bit off both and it pulls it off quiet nicely. The characters there's about 8 to begin with and to buy characters, courses and even music. The characters like Sonic,Tails,Eggman,Sam Di Amigo,Billy Hatcher ,Alex Kidd and so on its not a bad roster but why is Big the Cat in the roster. All characters have different stats so pick a character with good turn in speed, handling and accelration.

Anyway the gameplay is nice and smooth. It plays just like Mario Kart Wii and the power sliding is nice and simple. You get power ups like rockets, bombs, horns and even mines. If you are way back sometimes it gives you an All Star Move and you can come flying through the pack for example Sonic turns into Super Sonic for a bit. The courses are actually quiet awesome a few with plenty of turns and hazards. You can't play 2 player Grand Prix which sucks and also you have to beat certain curcuits before you play the later longer ones which I found a bit dissapointing.

There is Mission Mode and you have to do a certain task and this is a nice inclusion to the game. You have to do a certain task and you will get ranked on your performance. Doing well will get you more points for you to buy things from the shop. Online play now it is okay but for the Wii version there isn't Ranking system which is a dissapointment and also you have got to be quick when picking your character because you can't pick th same character as some else. It is a maximum of 8 players and you can turn the power ups off if you are the host of that lobby. The other dissapointment is you can't pick the course the host does. It's virtually lag free but it lacks the online of say Mario Kart Wii.

Controls

You can use the Wii mote and Nunchuck,Classic Controller and Wii Mote and also the Wii Wheel.

Graphics and Sound

The graphics are nice and solid and the courses look nice and detailed. The course have moments from SEGA games like those badniks from Sonic 2. So you can say the course design is actually pretty good. Sound well don't get me started on that commentator he is annoying as any I have heard in games but you can turn him off which I would advise to do because he is a pain. Otherwise the music from this is pretty good.

Lastability

The game is about a good few hours of Grand Prix mode and Mission Mode and the unlocking of stuff might take you a while so it should keep you hooked plus there's multiplayer which helps.

Overall Opinion

A solid racer nothing special but it does have the feel of being a Mario Kart clone in areas. It is a solid racer in its own right. It has good curcuits and solid game to go with but it lacks Mario Karts magical touch but I say if you are gonna copy then do it from the best and it worked. The game is great fun has plenty to do has solid multiplayer but online could have been better compared to Mario Kart Wii online play it falls way short of its brilliant Ranking System but it does add Mission Mode which it doesn't have. A solid racer but not a Mario Kart Wii beater.
