So as everyone knows, Sonic and Knuckles was supposed to actually be the second half of Sonic 3, but Sega didn't finish it in time. Anyway, Sonic 3 "and Knuckles" is amongst the top Genesis games, and best platformers ever made. All 14 zones are top notch, the 3 bonus stages are amazing, but importantly, the "lock-on" feature takes the worst of Sonic 3 itself, such as the intro, invincibility, and credits music, as well as the 1 bonus stage thing and short game length, and makes it right. The bosses were hard but fun, the special stages took time to master, and the game with all 3 characters is different, clever, and awesome. Hyper Sonic should have been a mainstay, IMO.
Sonic and Knuckles alone is still pretty good, if you're looking for a short, fun game. Sonic 3 alone is good, but nothing close to S3K, which is what it was meant to be, plus some.
