online grand prix mode vs coms?

just curious, if for example you can't fill out the entire race match with human opponents, will the game sub in com players?

or if you are playing a private match with a friend can you set all the other players as com for the grand prix online mode.

I realize the answer to this question probably isn't known yet. but was just curious
