Love how funny Chris K.'s comment about Sonic being "Milk-fest" all over the box... Sonic is SEGA's Macsot or whatever.

To be honest though, while I'm perfectly aware that Sonic is the mascot for SEGA and he's the one that helps rake in the big bucks, I think they went a little overboard with the cover art. I mean, I know they needed something to demonstrate the transformation feature, but 4 shots of after-image Sonic? That's a little overkill. What's worse, it has LESS supporting characters shown on the cover.

I think all those shots of Sonic are just mainly to illustrate the transforming feature that pretty much defines this game. Still, it would be nice to see another sega character besides Eggman since Sonic is already on the front.

I understand that they want to demonstrate the transformation on the cover and that they use Sonic as the example.
But having Sonic on the cover 5 times, and only two other characters on the box (with one being Eggman) is obviously a kick in the balls for people who are fans of Sega's other franchises.

And yes, massively over-emphasizing the best selling franchise when many of Sega's other franchises are more critically acclaimed (or simply: better) is milking.
Mario is not explicitly mentioned in the title of Smash Bros, and on the boxart he is merely one character among others.
But it's ok, Sega is allowed to do some milking as long as they still put out good to great games, they need the money.

    Damn that's ugly box art.

Maybe they're having more budget for the game, than the cover.
