It should be but it has been overlooked by too many people. This game has it all. Great combat, story, characters, gunplay, driving, voice acting, parkour, and atmosphere.

^^^^^^ to this. If not the best game of 2012, it's certainly the most FUN game of 2012, no doubt about that. I was surprised at just how much I enjoyed (sorry, wrong tense - how much I ENJOY) playing it, despite it being on the short side. The terrific DLC more than makes up for that minor fault.
Haven't enjoyed a game so much since GTAIV and its DLC. A true undiscovered, but much appreciated, diamond of a game. So many players have no idea what they're missing. A lot of respect to Squeenix for giving UFG the money and just telling them to go out there and blow everyone's socks off!

100% Agreed. I just finished the game, and I can honestly say I enjoyed start to finish. The story was fairly good too.

I think it is a great game, but didn't get picked up by enough people. GOTY shouldn't consider units sold (and it might not explicitly for some), but I'm sure general popularity matters...
My only complaint is that there wasn't enough of it! I wish the main story were another 8-10 hours...*fingers crossed for future DLC*

Really, I don't think it's GOTY material. Is it fun: absolutely. To me, the ending was lacking, especially after the final "boss fight." There were plenty of other games that were fun and had a lot more to them than this one did, Dishonored being the one to spring to mind.

Have you Embraced Eternity lately?

ACIII got all the press attention, SD had the fun gameplay.

For whatever reason this game was very much under the radar compared to other games released around the same time. It was easily one of the better games this year.

Look it up - SD actually won GOTY on G4 XPlay for action adventure.
The same show gave overall GOTY to Borderlands II.
This game is excellent but cannot possibly compete with the likes of B2 for GOTY.
And furthermore, IMHO, this game falls short of Dishonored for action adventure. G4's XPlay award program must have come out B4 Dishonored did because DH was not mentioned anytime during the show.
It was also XPlay's last episode ever - so there's that.

Dishonored was pretty short, and the story was pretty generic. The endings both weren't very good. I'm not fanboying Sleeping Dog's here, but I had pretty high hopes for dishonored (being a huge fan of stealth games and bethesda works).
