Which Version of Characters?

I played the original game and now I'm looking at getting into the sequel, but I have a couple of questions.

1. Lightcores. I thought these were just the fancy versions so I figured I would pick them up instead of their normal counterparts. I guess they have an area burst attack instead of the Wow-Pow power. Is this a good trade off or am I better off getting the regular versions?

2. If I get a new version of character from the first game, is there any reason to keep the old one?

1. the area burst affect when you place a lightcore on the portal only works once per level. Not very useful IMO.

2. Can't really think of a reason to use a series 1 when you have a series 2 available.

Just a minor warning about some of the Lightcores...

The Lightcore versions of Hex, Prism Break, Drobot, and Eruptor do NOT have access to their S2 Wow Pow upgrade. This means that aside from the Lightcore "bomb" attack that is only good once per stage, Lightcore versions of these characters are IDENTICAL to their S1 counterparts.

Ross, so does that mean I should get the regular versions of those 4 but Lightcores of like, Shroomboom have all the things?

Yes, lightcores of the new characters are better overall, as the new characters and lightcores both work like S1 characters, except LCs have the 1 time bonus. I picked up a LC Jet-Vac and I'm glad I did. LC Prism Break, however, leaves me feeling regretful.
