Okay, let me preface this by saying that I am usually one of the first people to suggest that a broken or faulty portal is to blame when a Skylander figure fails to retain data after removing it from the portal. However, I'm starting to think there is something going on with the way data is saved to a figure that is not working correctly.

TWICE now, I've had heroic challenges vanish of a figure after some marathon grinding.

I took my Hot Head from 10 Heroics (all speed) all the way to 38 (the max I can get right now). I took him off to do some grinding with Fright Rider, and when I put him back on to do some Quests, his Heroics were at... 15?!

Just now, I took my Tree Rex from 13 to 30 Heroics before I forced myself to stop to check for data loss. Sure enough, when I put him back on the portal, it was at 25.

This is just odd... and very inconsistent. So far, I have only noticed this with Heroics, but I know others have posted on these boards complaining about money and/or upgrade losses. I have three different portals, and after my Hot Head issue I switched to one of my backup portals just to be certain... and that's when the Tree Rex issue happened.

All I can suggest is that if you're going to grind Heroics, do them in bursts of five or so... exit to Flynn's ship... and replace the character to make sure they saved. Do not lose an hour or more of grinding time like I did... twice!

I'm glad you mentioned this. I spent some time in PvP to get Chill up to 10 victories and earn my last quest. I got the gold top hat! Then, the next night, I put Chill back on and there are ZERO pvp victories, as if I never did them.

Okay... freak theory. This happened AGAIN tonight with Bouncer, but I got it to trigger after ONE heroic challenge. During the challenge that vanished, I got a Quest completion update. Now I'm wondering if Quest progression interferes with saving Heroic Challenges...

That's kinda what I've been doing too, as soon as i buy upgrades, earn a tophat, finish a quest, or do heroics. I jump to a level and make a mental note of how much gold my character has. Then I wait for the lil Eom thing to finish, then break something for gold and quickly take my character off and put it back on to make sure it saved. If he/she still has the same hat (going from bronze to silver, silver to gold tophats) or has close enough to the money amount gained after breaking this (I always wait for the lil treasure chest icon by the character's health bar to go away) and same level (for new toys after grinding chapter 15) I know it most likely saved.

On another note, has anyone ever had this happen : I was questing with my series 1 Stump Smash, when I took it off and placed it back on he still had the silver tophat . I thought "ok good, it saved" I checked his heroics after since I killed two birds with one stone doing the "no damage in a heroic" and "1000 enemies killed" quests and he did still have his heroics count. Then I checked his quest list "4 more to next rank" was like WTF?!?! Sure enough, his 1000 kills was reset to 0 XD It did correct itself after i took him off and placed him back on the portal, but thought that was very strange.

Is this a Wii-only problem or are people experiencing it on other consoles?

i can confirm this happening on the PS3. Although I was using a portal that would give me errors a lot saying that my skylander wasn't on the portal. This was a wired portal too. Only happened with Hot Dog though, but it happened a few times.

Happened AGAIN tonight with Hot Dog. This is getting out of control. I have upgraded most of my orange base figures up to some point since launch, and this if the first time I'm noticing such consistent failure. I have to think that there is some hardware issue involved that is compounding this (i.e. portals wearing out).

However, I do think that Quest Updates/Completions and/or Leveling Up during Heroic Challenges can trigger the problem. I know for a fact that during this test with Hot Dog I got a Level Up and a "Monster Masher" Quest progress update during the Arachnid Antechamber Speed HC. I continued to complete the other remaining speed challenges with Hot Dog before I checked if he was saving properly... and I ended up losing 8 challenges and 2 Quest Completions when I did check.

Next I'm going to try to move ALL other figures away from the portal when I grind HC's. I have one of those lighted platforms from Power A, so I have characters surrounding the portal at all times. I doubt this will have an effect, but it is a new addition to the Skylanders area... so there are many more figures clustered in one area than there were before.
