As good as the original

User Rating: 8 | Skate It WII
Skate It is the Skate that wasn't there for Wii. While Skate released for other consoles and Skate 2 was being ready to laun in two months, Wii owners got Skate It, a Wii exclusive Skate.

Modes
Skate It has most of the features from Skate. The game has tons of different venues all over the world, and a fun local splitscreen multiplayer party mode where each player takes turns playing trying to do a variety of things which is exclusive to the Wii. Unfournately split screen was left out unlike Ubisoft's Shaun White Road Trip for Wii and no online like the other Skates. The career mode is about you, one of the few survivors of a huge disasters in a San Vanelona and a cameraman seeing your skating talent. The city is in rough shape, but that partially works out for the better for skating. You basically do challenges for your cameraman, so he can take photos and video tape you and give it to the media. You have friends that phone you and help you out with your career, and let you unlock new venues across the world. There are no people around in San Vanelona, since it got whiped out, but what doesn't make sense is that when you go to other places like Paris, there is still no people. You even see them in cutscenes, but I guess you just get really private spots. This takes out part of the fun in the original Skate and Skate 2, but it just brings the focus to tricks and challenges.

Controls
The controls for Skate and Skate 2 are great, changing from button pressing to flick it analog controls. This games has great controls and 3 different types. You can use the Wii mote by itself, which I found to be the least enjoyable, but it worked out, the Wii mote and nunchuk which worked really good and had the most tricks avalable, and the balance board which is the funnest once you get the hang of it. The balance board is incredibly sensitive, so if you haven't skateboarded before I suggest turning the sensitivity down because the turning is hard. The Wii mote by itself senses you tilt it, but it didn't feel all that great in action although it was good on sensing my tilting. The Wii mote and nunchuk were the easiest to learn and the most true to the original. You steer with the nunchuk and like the Wii mote by itself you pull tricks off buy flicking the Wii mote up and turning it and such. Holds and tweeks and on buttons which seems appropriate. The balance board was incredibly sensitive for turning, so like I said, you should turn it down unless you skateboarded lots before this. When you turn it down its quite surprising how well the balnceboard senses your wait for jumps and trick. It's hard getting used to, but its incredibly fun. You also hold the Wii mote while using the balanceboard, but this was only for tweeks, hold and speeding up.

Graphics
The graphics are similar to the original, but in low resolution. It's not as bad as reviewers like IGN try to make it sound, but it's not as good as top end Wii games like Mario Galaxy. The game still looks above average for a Wii game and animations are fluid. You will see a bit of jagged objects, but the objects are nomally from a great distance away. The characters have large chests and thin wastes and even the fat character model looks almost average. The game has many different venues which makes the backgrounds change a bit, but the artstyle is realistic, so you won't see anything that will stun you. The graphics definetly work with the game and looks true to the original.

Sound
A lot of alternative music mixes, but the soundtrack is well done and works with the game. The cameraman is a little quieter then he is in Skate 2, but he talks enough and his comments are always on topic and what he should say. The sound is clear and crisp and is a lot like other Skate games.

Overall

The game is definetly another amazing Skate game and a worthy episode on the Wii. Although it's missing online which would've been a nice add-on the game features great controls, many venues, above average graphics, a great career mode and a fun party mode makes this game another amazing Skate game and as good as its brothers.
