A great space-based RTS that evades stereotypical RTS classifications to make a great game.

I don't know what it is about this game, but it just makes a great game.

Sure there are lots of components that I can identify as being well-done.

The models of the ships and buildings, both small and large look great even up close. Something that isn't required by definitely doesn't hurt the quality of a game like this.

The main great thing about the game is how seamless the transition is from individualized systems to galaxy view is. Each system kind of represents its own important battleground, but the way that you travel from one to the next, and what kind of role they play in the larger scheme is important and easily represented in a way that makes things easy for the player.

The music and voice acting isn't breathtaking, but they're far from annoying, so you don't feel the need to mute the sound and have iTunes going on instead.

I'd say the biggest tell-tale factor is that while games tend to last for several hours, you never feel really bored with what's going on. There's always something to be done, managed, attacked, built-up, etc.

Space is presented in an interesting way, but isn't so complicated as Homeworld, where you have to be a master of moving the camera angle around just to be aware of your surroundings.

If you haven't given this one a try, it's now even a great low price on Amazon. Definitely worth a look for RTS fans.
