I'll see you guys in about 5 years once all the expansion packs are selling for $19.99 in "Sim City: Complete"

Btw, have you guys heard of this sweet game called Borderlands? Just picked up the GOTY edition, so much content for 10 bucks!

Problem with buying any EA game is that it's like a service agreement more than a game. Everything, right off the bat is about dicing up content and selling it in small packets.

This game is just going to be like D3; a classic game twisted into a bald faced unabashed cash generating machine. I'd wait to see how it goes first. this is EA after all.

I hope expansion pack adds TOKYO!

The game is shit. Won't buy it, just like I didn't buy Cities XL or Socities.

A-Train is better than this, the one that came out in 1989.

EA is a crap company and we all know that. Only decent product associated with them is BF3.

Sounds great in every trailer I saw.

Sounds terrible in every naysayer comment I read.

Well, I just hope I won't have another Diablo3-like experience, that's what I'm saying.

bloody-hell you're absolutely right in every aspect about this game. I just keep remembering that Monte Cristo idea that went down the hole, so later, after bankrupting they'd to sold the game as a stand alone game to another company.

I agree with Annihilator-X- who said SimCity 4 was a difficult game, but that is part of the fun, the Simtropolis site can tell you that if you pay them a visiting. I don't want to pay telephone companies any cent just to play a game. If I don't have a place to connect or I am away from an internet connection I will not be able to play the game, so I'll pass this time and will wait for them to change their mind about Internet connection... really.

BTW... I live in Brazil and internet here is a joke. Only telephone companies will profit from this thing. Me? Well... if I go to countryside visiting my parents with my 3GB of video card notebook, I will not be able to play this game without an connection and, anybody who doesn't consider their costumers, will not have my money.

@zerocool55 I find Simcities very intuitive...maybe because I played all of them since I was a kid... I really hope they don't ruin one of the last PC game franchises that I love playing... Been disapointed by Civ5, kinda disapointed by UFO... I need an awesome Simcity 5 otherwise I might need hard drooogs to get along. ;)

@zerocool55 Part of the fun was to figure out how to play the game. I didn't ever read the manual of SimCity 4, and yes it is a difficult game, but that is part of the fun. There are plenty of user written guides on it as well. If you like the recent trend of dumb down facebook games go for them, but dumbing down gameplay for the sake of simplification is the wrong direction to take for SimCity.

Hopefully this game will be better than what the naysayers are naysaying.

I played the beta and loved it. Very similar to the old simcity games. Alrdy made my preorder and I dont see why people complain about it being online all the time.

@truevar some people have to pay per minute or per MB when using their internet , its not the case with me but still there are people who have this problem.

I cannot wait! I hope they didn't change too much of the game.

I can wait, Ive always wanted a Ferrari as well, but if someone hands me a steaming pile of shit, with a label Ferrari on it, I am not going to buy it.

This is analogous to the steaming pile of shit called Diablo 3. That I got suckered into.

@BDNiner You better do some research then before you decide to buy this, otherwise you'll be bitterly disappointed.

Just to give you a headstart :

- very tiny maps (it's more like a "Sim Backyard" or "Sim Village")

- no terraforming (unless you count a bridge placement bug ruining terrain)

- no subways (there's bus lines but they have incredibly stupid "all bunch up and cause traffic jams" AI behavior)

- no local saves and only 1 server side save (rendering the "fun" of disasters useless, among other things)

- you need to be permanently online to play (internet or EA server problems and you'll be unable to play)

- ... the list goes on, but I'll stop here

Make up your own mind I'd say, I'm not trying to talk you out of buying, just making you aware of some of these things.

@bloody-hell @BDNiner You just summed it all up. Sheeple will buy it, though. Morons are essential to EA's business model (see: Madden franchise).

I was half-hearted to whether to buy this game or not, being a massive SimCity fan since SimCity 2000. Having played the beta however, and knowing the type of company EA are, I certainly won't ever buy this title due to mandatory online play. Here's hoping one of these pirates make an offline version but I won't get my hopes up regarding that either because half of the game's calculations run on EA/Maxis servers with only a small proportion of the coding, and the overall engine on your hard drive.

Simply put, a missed opportunity for EA to resurrect SimCity after a very poor Societies. But this ain't going to happen.

bloody-hell
bloody-hell like.author.displayName like.author.displayName like.author.displayName 3 Like

@danyjr Don't put your head in the sand right away, you don't know how much is handled on EAs servers - It may just be the global economy stuff and some client update checks in which case "the scene" only has to code something that emulates EAs servers for that global economy stuff.

Even the 1 hour "beta" time limitation was circumvented within the first few hours of the beta, allowing you to play for as long as you wish, but that was a simple client-side "hack".

I'm not buying the new SimCity either, all that forced online nonsense, DRM and installation of EA's Origin trojan isn't worth it - If I can't play the game whenever and wherever I want, then I'm not interested, it's as simple as that.

Besides, their preorder DLC "bonuses" and "special edition" should give you an idea of the shitload of overpriced DLC to come - Be prepared to invest at least 300 to 500 EUR over the coming 1 to 2 years for small content updates.

No thanks, I'll wait for an indie developer to take on the task of creating a worthy SimCity successor again and in the meantime play some good old SimCity (2000, 3000, 4), Cities XL and Cities in Motion to just name a few - They all have tons of free mods and lots of free content addons and are playable offline.

@bloody-hell @danyjr I told you so...2 months on and Warez groups could not find a way to find a way around the always on DRM. EA won, and whether you like it or not, it's a big victory for always on DRM. This is where the industry is heading. Unfortunately the gamers have to pay for pirates' actions.

@danyjr I don't really understand your complaint. Always online isn't really that bad, I agree it can be frustrating when servers are down but this happens rarely. After playing the beta I would understand if you don't want to buy the game because of the reduced city size. Other than that the game is quite good and a mandatory online requirement doesn't really negatively affect the game all that much.
