I'm thinking about trying those while I wait for the new SimCity to release and go down in price.
Currently playing: RE5 (PS3), PS Vita, Uncharted 3 (Platinum Run)

I'm thinking of applying a large dose of Cities XL instead.

I tried Cities XL, but I didn't like the way it played. At this point, I've resigned myself to the probable fact that the era of SC games is over, and now we'll only get junk like SC5 and Anno type games.
Anno is awesome, what are you talking about? That said, Anno 1404 is really good. Anno 2070 isn't as good but it isn't terrible. Keep in mind though that the Anno series are NOT city builders like SimCity is. They're more of a trading simulator where you must ship goods between islands to please the citizens. Yes, you still build houses and things, but the core game is all about trading and selling.
I'm looking forward to SimCity (which is NOT called SC5).
Okay I realize you said 'Anno type games' which may indicate you don't hate Anno but hate games similar to Anno. If that's the case, then I apologize for this post.
TC, as far as actual city builders go, SimCity has always been the best to me. Nothing else on the market comes close to the SimCity series.
The Tropico series is more about balancing needs with the citizens and making them happy. It's not a strict city builder.
I never liked the Cities series either. SimCity Societies plays a lot like the Cities series (I assume that's where they got inspiration from) though and I think it's better. Keep in mind that SCS plays nothing like the main games (hence the name change most likely).

Cities XL looks far more real. It came up with the way of how to do buses. I am thrilled with it.
