    - No option 100% offline with single player mode.
    - Always-on connection to Origin (EA servers).
    - Limitations to players in fake single player mode.
    - The presence of empty spaces not editable (useless empty spaces) with automatic road connections.
    - Absence of terraforming.
    - Absence of farms.
    - Not being able to save your maps on the hard drive (you will not be able to reload the city to a stage prior to disasters).
    - Road connections placed in a fixed and pre-determined location in the map.
    - Airport City (the city is only one International Airport, occupying the entire map 2x2km).
    - Absence of subway.
    - Automatic road connections.
    - Player doesn’t have complete control over the zoning by population density (almost automatic zoning).
    - Dead space between all the buildings.
    - Size of the maps is 2km by 2km (small maps).
    - Not being able to control the regional transport.
    - Modding restrictions.

    Why?

    EA. That's Why.

Electronic Arts could ruin a fully interactive, 3D game about a band of Supermodel rockstars fighting in chocolate sauce. Of course, they won't make that, as it might actually be imaginative.

The pity is that there's probably a good game under there. Maxis aren't a bad studio. It's just that EA's buisness model (Buy good companies, and ruin them) deserves a good sledgehammer to the bollocks.

Ugh, that is a ton of terrible news there.

I'll still give it a chance though. @_@

I agree. Simulating every sim citizen is pretty cool. There's a lot of potential in the game, but of course EA will screw it up. It's too soon to say whether I will or will not play the game, but I'm definitely not preordering. EA has burned me too many timed in the past, and probably will again with this game.

Just don't buy it, if people would just stop throwing money at them they might get the hint. Either that or they won't make games for PC anymore but frankly, look at what they are producing, would any remotely sane person consider this pile of excrement being cancelled as a loss?

I would. I've been a fan of the SimCity series for along time now, and I'm really looking forward to this.

Uh... this game looks like a dumbed down version of Tropico 4.

And EA makes video games, and I play video games.

Not sure I see the problem here.

Look, if the new SimCity gets boycotted by uppity fans, then EA will consider the genre and the franchise as a whole dead, and there won't be any new SimCity games in the future. It's a gambit I'm not willing to take.

I would disagree, they are killing the genre and franchise with this title. if you want this thing to replace the real deal by all means support it just don't be surprised when #6 is an even more watered down cash shop enterprise.

^If they want to kill the genre they wouldn't have made this game. Hell, they actually made the effort to create a new game engine for this game. They are serious, and the fans are being extremely cautious and having this gigantic fear that the game will screw up. Given the previous game was SimCity Societies I think the fear is rational, but blown out of proportion sometimes. I do think EA and Maxis are listening to their fans, and people at Simtropolis are doing a great job as a watchdog and to get feedback from. With enough pressure hopefully they will be persuaded and calm the more irrational fans down. I think their marketing plan is this - they're sweeping SimCity Societies under the rug, try to improve what was left of that travesty while at the same time trying to get The Sims crowd to play it.

I would argue while it is nice to introduce new people to SimCity, but not at the expense of the more hardcore players who has been with this game from at least SC2000.

The problem with this thinking, is that by supporting this farmville version of simcity, you are telling EA that that's what y7ou want: simplistic, limited control, hand holding video games with fewer options and less freedom.

Basically, you are telling EA/Maxis that you would like your next simcity to be more kiddie than this one is becoming. So yes, this game and the general direction the SC franchise is heading is destroying the genre. It is wrecking it in favor of kiddie city builders.

They're going do to...what they're already doing. It's not like they're going to completely rebuild or even re-tune the game because of the negative responses they've been getting from old SC fans. They're hoping they can grab enough new fans to cover their costs and who will eat up expansion after expansion ala The Sims.

Kiddie, as in... what? Kiddie is SimCity Societies. You'd think they don't learn any lessons from that travesty? I don't think it's simple. The new engine pretty much offers new challenges, and the gameplay demo shows that it's gonna shape up to be a good game. If you wanna complain about the graphics about being too colorful and cartoony, then you're just being unreasonable. Team Fortress 2 and Torchlight are fun.
