Story and appearance geared more towards movie and younger and familiar customers of genre games.

User Rating: 7 | Silent Hill: Homecoming PS3
Silent Hill: Homecoming has all of the elements for a good horror adventure on your favorite console but it feels like it is missing something. If you are familiar with some of the older Silent Hill games, you have to take your time and explore areas with a minor focus on fighting and a major focus on puzzles. Silent Hill: Homecoming turned the tables by focusing on fighting monsters while making the puzzles very simple and often useless to solve. The overall appearance looks absolutely beautiful and the element of surprise is definitely there but when following lead to the next piece of the puzzle, I found myself running in circles looking for a vague clue with no mystery behind it or a linear path with no reward for any extended risks. What was my biggest list of disappointments?
1. The length of the game should have been at least twice as long. The originals would take at least 20 hours to complete when following a guide.
2. The emphasis was too focused on the combat and not on the mystery, horror, or puzzles. The surprise was not there because you knew when it was coming.
3. The puzzles either had not enough lead or riddle to complete or they were entirely too easy.
4. The bosses were too easy throughout the game but the last boss was difficult.
5. The story was geared more towards the movie than the prior games.
Now that I presented some of the bad, I will list some of my favorite aspects of the game.
1. The free camera view really added some control to your character and prevented some prior issues of not being able to see what you wanted to look at.
2. The graphics and shadow effects are perfect for the current technology.
3. The conversations between characters seemed more realistic and the story line was understood without decryption
4. Load times and door entry was drastically improved.
5. The story followed the movie really well.
6. The last boss fight was very challenging.
Conclusion: the game was fun and geared more towards the audience that has seen the movie and now the original fans. If you look at the market and some of the new customers of games, the business decision makes sense to link it to the movie instead of following unfamiliar storylines. I would have bought it if it was 2 or 3 times longer but developers need to realize when a game takes longer than a week to play through, people are more prone to purchase it. For a short, it was fun but I would not see the need to play through it again, unlike it's predecessors.
