Wasn't impressed with the game.  It just didn't really have the soul that it should have.  It wasn't easy to see if there was a lot of love put into the game.

It wasn't terrible but it really did feel like a "product" as opposed to what video games actually are: art.

The technical issues really didn't help that feeling.

Although it *is* getting patched again, along with the HD collection, so that's something.

I hate to generalise, but I really think the Japanese should be left to deal with horror, provided they don't just try and copy the awful American style, like they're starting to do with everything else these days.

Although I have to say, they didn't do *too* bad a job with the horror aspect of this game.

Sometimes I think they literally can't understand any type of horror that isn't someone getting their head ripped off and eaten, but they held their own here I think.

gringos don't know how to make a good horror game, only japanese can do it.

The frame rate issues in this game are horrendous. Which is sad, because I'm a huge fan of the series, and I'm really enjoying the game so far, but the frame rate issues make me not wanna play it anymore. I'm playing on the 360. Here's hoping they release that patch soon.

Looking at youtube videos with the X360 version i don't see frame-rate issues. But the ps3 that i have has some serious frame-rate issues with slowdowns and wavering. It's one unstable mess. I like the game, it's not scary but there's a lot of atmosphere. Get the Alan Wake kinda feel from time to time. But fix frame-rate Konami, it's not good.

Been playing the game the last few days haven't played a SH since 3 which I loved. I am really enjoying the game it may not be as scary as the originals but it's still a lot of fun I think so anyways. The only big complaint I have is the lag which Maxwell talked about. I haven't experienced it in combat yet but running around it's annoying I thought my game froze a couple times with 10+ lag spikes sometimes. Other than that great game so far.

This is not exactly what I expected from a Silent hill sequel... such background music is totally unfitting and does not make them scarier as it should be in a good horror game. Everything looks bright, predictable and lacks the atmosphere you could always feel in Silent hill 2 and 3. Might get this though since I'm a fan of Silent hill and I just want to give this one a try.

so i'm new here, and i gotta say, i really like the "spoilers" frame before the review. how nice. anyways, i'm not surprised to read, watch, and hear about another mediocre silent hill game. will things ever be as good as they once were? i think not, something about nostalgia and rose tinted glasses....

So true about that title track not fitting the game at all. Terrible way to start the review I almost stopped watching as soon as I heard that song. Game look good tho.

@scarletsnake There is no regenerating health whatsoever. Only the med packs you have in your inventory heal you. And I really does looks a lot like Big Boss, I think that's awesome.

Nevr played a Slient Hill game before but from comments below, am concidering the HD trilogy first i think. Then picking this up later for cheap so I can enjoy the development of the game series.

This game isn't perfect but I love it regardless of the flaws. Silent Hill is finally back to it's classic roots and I love this game for that. It does what the Silent Hill games after 4 have lost sight of. Its scary, and It has a great pace to it as well. It did take a little time to get used to the freedom they give you at first. I had to get lost a lot. Yes this game does not hold your hand through every little event like most games today. It gives you a lot of freedom to do what you want and that is awesome and so rare nowadays. There is still room for improvement but Vatra did a great job at breathing life back into Silent Hill again.

I got this game yesterday(I got my ticket for the tramway to Devil's pit) and loving this game. This is a great game the combat is good i like it the graphics is better then I have seen in the Silent hill series.atmospheric graphics design is amazing and storyline is awesome and that is what makes a Silent Hill game great.IGN gave this game a 4.5, (in my opinion a unfair review) A 6-7 minute video review is not going to convince me.A video reviewer can edit the video review to show what they want you to see. That is why I lough at video reviews(I put no trust in no video review) I use my judgment.

I dont feel there was enough said in this review, about the evident purity of some of the set-pieces. this looks A LOT like (one of my personal favourite EVER games) the second in the series. This most certainly looks like a step-up from the offensively detracted "homecoming". So much so, that I am now looking forward to coming back to my old ghost town Silent hill. Buying this!

Reminds me of the old PS2 Evil Dead combat mechanics. Looks cool but definitely on the fence here.

Looks like a cheap low budget sequel - The Rocky 5 or Phantom Menace of the SH series! The graphics look too arcadey and lack the raw and gritty style that makes Silent Hill what it is. And those transform effects are laughable! They look like Powerpoint transitions.
