- Jul 14, 2012 4:31 pm GMTI love the Silent Hill series, I have every game, and have played them through several times, but I don't get all the hate for this game! can't we have just one multiplayer Silent Hill game that's different and more action oriented? as long as they don't make the entire series like this why does it matter?!
And now I see people talking about a Silent Hill Kart Racer, if they DID make a game like that I would buy it on release day! I can only imagine how fun it would be racing around Silent Hill with Pyramid Head, and Nurses, and all the other characters!

There is no way out of here... it'll be dark soon... there is no way out of here.

You get mad and call people trolls because they have different opinions than you. And if you feel really insecure, you can say they aren't true fans because they dared to try something different.

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic 3D is inevitable for the 3DS. I have declared it, and I will be correct. Anyone who disagrees will be ignored or flamed. - Jul 19, 2012 9:06 pm GMTWell I would still try this game, im a SH fan, but i mean playing from a different perspective could be acceptable but, this game doesnt look nor feel like a SH, you cant call this game scary at all!!! PLUS your character gets Special Skills, like magic. . .SERIOUSLY?!!!!!! that particular thing is what im soooo against this title. . .but ill still play it because i dont take the whole drastic change personaly like many did, or will do when its finally release (because things MIGHT get even worst XD)

3DS - 0001-3376-7716 PS Vita - macabrocastle - Jul 25, 2012 9:43 am GMTFans don't even understand why they're mad. That's the sad thing. It's because "OH s*** IT'S A DUNGEON CRAWLER AND LOOKS LIKE PS2 graphics!" and that's not even the right reason to hate on Book of Memories.
The reason I don't like it is because it messes with the formula in such a way that it feels like it changes the entire background that the original four were developed upon. Basically, it's what Kingdom Hearts II did to Kingdom Hearts, in terms of trying to follow the storyline. Book of Memories just throws all of the town's lore to the wind and forgets every basis that Team Silent had in mind when creating the town. The fact that they have this magical book that comes from nowhere is just silly. The goddess of the town, and even the town itself, have never had such mystic power that they could create a book to "change the past." Their powers only affect the real, physical world in the current time. So, creating such a book is blasphemy. Plus, the human characters have super powers. SUPER POWERS. Weird. Just weird.
I don't care that Book of Memories is multiplayer. That's actually not a bad thing at all, but what I do care about is that they might as well have severed all connections to Silent Hill all together. - Jul 25, 2012 1:04 pm GMTIt's a f***ing spinoff. That's the whole point. It's just an experimental little "fun" type of game. There's nobody with a gun pointed to your head making you buy it.
The SH fans don't know what the hell in a Silent Hill game. Try to emulate the atmosphere from the first four games and they'll cry about you copying Team Silent's work (and half the fandom probably can't name anybody from Team Silent other than Yamaoka without having to Google search first). Try to implement new ideas and they'll b**** about how it's "not Silent Hill".
It's unfortunate when you're saddled with one of the whiniest, most self entitled, and mentally screwed up fandoms in the realm of gaming. Even Team Silent wouldn't be able to satisfy everybody.

Even spin-offs coincide with story line and lore in games, though. Well, unless it's Umbrella Chronicles, then those are just basically recaps. Code: Veronica would be a better idea of a spin-off that keeps up a story line. Even a friggin Kingdom Hearts game does nowadays (solely following the second game's story) because it still follows the same themes and the same universal "rules." If it's set within the same universe, it has to follow the same story structure just so the game can make fluent sense within a series that is story based. Like I said: They can do whatever they hell they want with the gameplay; dungeon crawler, RPG, turn-based, I really do not care. A little gameplay innovation would be great. Well... maybe not a turn-based game...
By the way, Team Silent did please Silent Hill fans very well! But they wanted the series to end after Silent Hill 3. At least, the core developers like Keiichiro Toyama (see what I did there?) did. That's why he quit after the first Silent Hill game even, then birthed Gravity Rush 11 years later. The fact of the matter is that there was a specific ideal in a story that is being tampered with in a way that just makes any spin-off come off as silly. Silent Hill 4 was sort of a happy accident that got welded into Silent Hill, but even with the major gameplay alterations, it still kept the similar themes and style in which everything takes place in the real, physical world. If you want to complain to me more, go right ahead. I don't- I just do not care. - Jul 25, 2012 9:01 pm GMTI slipped up, it's been 13 years.
- Jul 27, 2012 3:22 am GMTSo much misinformation in that post it's pathetic. You don't know what the story in Book of Memories will be exactly so you waste time saying "well, spin offs should coincide with blah blah blah" You don't know why exactly Keichiro Toyama left Konami and if you're going to claim it was because he wanted Silent Hill to end, you better have sources to back yourself up. Same goes for claiming Team Silent wanted it to end after SH3.
Of course never mind the fact that Team Silent never was a concrete team of people and staff came and went as the series progressed.
And no, Team Silent didn't please everybody. Nobody can please the screwed up fanbase when they all have a different idea of what Silent Hill is "supposed to be" and I've been following the fandom since SH2.
When SH2 first came out you had your share of people who were disappointed that it had nothing to do with SH1. But people moved on. Then SH3 came out and I vividly remember people freaking out about Heather using a submachine gun in the preview vids/pics proclaiming that it was turning Resident Evil. Some fans felt it "ruined' SH1 because SH1 didn't need a sequel and I recall a couple of idiots who criticized the idea of having vocals in the soundtrack (never mind the fact SH1 had one vocal song in its OST) and even went as far to proclaim SH was "turning pop".
SH4, of course, needs no mention because it had the most mixed reception of all. If you think the entire fandom embraced every single game with open arms you don't know the fanbase as well as you think you have.
Let me guess: you're one of those guys who digs up all your information from those horribly inaccurate and widely criticized TwinPerfect videos, right?

Because people hate and despise spinoff side games! Mario Kart, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks... they were terrible! Didn't you get the memo?
But seriously: People are idiots, that's why.

After all we all know Silent Hill has always been about taking itself seriously...which explains the UFO and dog endings and Heather being able to shoot laser beams out of her eyes while wearing a Sailor Moon outfit. Because Silent Hill is always supposed to be serious business.
