The only female protagonist so far in my all-time fave series - Silent Hill.

User Rating: 8 | Silent Hill 3 PC
Silent Hill 3 is not so different from SH2 since it's a direct sequel to that, though there's less of the street prowling like in the previous two games. The story, bizarre as it is, with the equally enigmatic characters you meet and grotesque creatures you need to kill or avoid, has the same consistency in terms of the creep factor kept in high standards by the same developers.

If you love the soundtrack in the first two games, then Silent Hill 3 won't disappoint you. Remixes of the original soundtracks of the previous games are suitably featured in parts of this 3rd game. The sound effects are nerve-wrecking as usual, so again, beware of using headphones, which the sound really gets into your head.

Unlike the previous games, there are certain hard enemies here that forces you to avoid them in the first playthrough, so that really puts you on your nerves further, but of course, depends on your playing style, you can avenge "yourself" when you get that unlimited ammo sub machine gun or flame-thrower in your 2nd round. Talking about 2nd round, if you enjoy the different endings which is a classic in these series, be prepared for 3 to 4 clearing rounds. I cleared it 2 times, and still enjoyed the game. The puzzles are good also, with easy, normal and hard settings for more replay value.

One of the only nagging problems is the health meter which is not applicable since you need to base it on the color change in your "portrait" in the inventory screen, which is hard to switch to in the heat of battle. One other issue is the ingeniously (or in my words, stupidly) arranged cinematography which mars your visual ability to defend against your adversaries. But nevertheless, the game's quite forgiving in the normal setting with optional challenge depending on your weapon of choice. A great game, though not the best in the series.
