The prime example of why games are scarier than movies!

This is by far, the best silent hill game yet. Graphics that make RE4 on PS2 blush, a cryptic story built off the first, and it’s faster paced then the second installment. This is still survival horror perfection even amongst the Dooms and RE’s of the world. Lots of cool weapons to play with, from a machine gun, samurai sword, maul, and an unlockable flame thrower and lightsaber! Not to mention a healthy assortment of enemies to stalk your every move from the shadows. A major plus from part 2 which had like what, 3 or 4 enemies in the whole game? Oh and the sound design, oh the sound. This is what makes these games stand apart from the bunch. Any game can have you walking around in the dark, shooting at stuff. But in these games, its what you don’t see that’s so scary. It’s the sound of the demon dogs chewing on something, it’s the echo of your footsteps in a dark hallway. It’s the terrifying growl of some un-known beast that lurks behind the fabric of reality, or the sound of the walls pulsating and twisting. The game also throws at you some terrific boss battles that were lacking in the first two. (also part 4, WTF?) As for the content in the story, I’m amazed some of this stuff made it past the ratings system. Sure everyone freaks out when someone has sex with a hooker, and then kills her. But how does puking up a fetus and then watching it get devoured by a dogmatic lunatic sound? That’d be a hoot to see on the back of the box, “WARNING, this game has devil baby eating” That would kick ass.
Can I say something bad about this game? Yeah, it’s short. REAL short. I’d say on average 6 hours maybe? Maybe less, depending on your skill. Which reminds me, it does have a cool separate difficulty adjustment for both enemies and puzzles. (puzzles on hard are INSANE)
Oh this isn’t a big deal, but the auto load from the first two is absent. WTF? Also, there’s less endings to this than the others. Instead of 4 or 5 endings, we get treated to 2, plus one secret ending. Weak.
In the end, this is still the best one, and worth buying for the scares and unlockables. Enjoy.
